Virginia Olson Virginia Ann Olson died peacefully from a battle with cancer on July 20, 2014. She was born in Victoria, MN on September 12, 1930 to Herbert and Susie (Bruhn) Thurk. She graduated from Mound High School in 1948. After graduation she worked in the accounting department at Sports Afield Magazine in the Twin Cities area and later worked as a teacher's aide in the Willmar School system. She served in church as a Sunday School teacher, trustee, quilter, usher and greeter. She enjoyed many outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, fishing and hunting. She also enjoyed reading and family gatherings. She exercised regularly at the gym until she was diagnosed with cancer in early 2014. On July 2, 1954 she married her best friend and the love of her life, Oscar Olson. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on July 2, 2014. In 1956 they moved to Willmar, MN when Oscar accepted a teaching position. They had two children, Mary and Bob. In 1986 they retired to Bozeman, MT where they built their own home. They enjoyed the mountains and the activities of the area and the many friendships made. They moved to Billings, MT in 2011 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Thurk. She is survived by her husband, Oscar Olson, daughter, Mary Olson of Billings, MT, son, Bob (Rhonda) Olson of Billings, MT and their children, Robert and Sydney. She is also survived by sister, Marian Veaason, of Hillman, MN and brother, Merlin (June) Thurk of Hillman, MN, brother-in-law, Dale (Joanne) Olson of Brooklyn Park, MN, sister-in-law, Karin (Bob) Stebbins of Calgary, AB Canada, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials can be sent to American Lutheran Church (5 Lewis Ave, Billings, MT 59101), RiverStone Hospice (2626 First Ave S, Billings, MT 59101) or a charity of one's choice. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at American Lutheran Church in Billings, MT, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at a later date at Lake Crystal Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

She was always smiling in school. a friendly face and encouraging. I always looked forward to the Minnesota visit and their stop at the Methodist church with the Terhunes. Blessed be her memory!

I saw Virginia and Oscar every morning at the gym. They walked around the gymnasium together to warm up which is when we would say our "good mornings" and I would sometimes walk with them and find out what had been going on in their lives or their kid or grandkids lives!! They loved each other and their family. They were the best example of a loving family I have seen!! My heart breaks for your whole family as I know how much Virginia will be missed! Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Our deepest sympathy to you, Oscar, and your family. Virginia was a wonderful woman who enjoyed living amongst the mountains of the West and partaking in all of the activities it offered. We enjoyed our visits with both of you when we made it to Bozeman. Nancy and I pray for you and your family as you go through the pain of sorrow.

I admired Virgina the short time I knew her at American Lutheran Church. She and Oscar were always there to assist with "greeting" at the door, always with a warm welcoming smile and a firm hand shake.
