Obituary
We lost our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend on March 3, 2016. All of us were so fortunate to have been able to celebrate with her on her 100th birthday! She had a long, well-lived and wonderful life. Mildred was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 11, 1915 to William and Maude (Tupper) Behnke. Her Dad nicknamed her "Babe" and that stuck throughout her years. On June 29, 1940 Babe married Albert Berg and to this union a daughter, Bonnie, and a son, Bill were born. Babe & Al moved to Billings in 1947 and Babe worked for McKesson-Robbins and Pierce Packing Company before retiring in 1971. Babe loved photography and was never without her camera. She loved making memory books, dancing, nurturing her plants and visiting with her many friends. Baking chocolate chip cookies and goodies was always a must. Her favorite saying was "To each his own." Before entering the nursing home, Babe lived in the South Forty Senior Complex for 24 years and made many friends. She made lasting friendships wherever she traveled. Mom collected and loved ladybug memorabilia and was known by many as "the ladybug lady." Babe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al; and grandson, Thad. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie (Dave) Warren and son, Bill Berg. She leaves behind four loving grandchildren - Mike (Heather Sieler) Warren, Tanya (Toby) Dahlberg, Sheldon Warren and Sara Hatfield (Rinney Fujiwara) and four great-grandchildren - Tealy, Tace, Schiavon and Beau; two nephews and their families and a cousin and her family. The family wishes to thank the staff at Billings Health and Rehabilitation Community for their compassionate and loving care. From all of us...we thank you for the abundance of happiness, tenderness and joy. You will be in our hearts forever. Job 19: 25-27 But I know there is someone in Heaven who will come to my defense. I will see Him with my own eyes and He will not be a stranger. Memorials may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering at a later date.

May the family and friends of Mildred be comforted by the promise that God " will swallow up death forever, and will wipe the tears from all faces.." (Isaiah 25:8) What a wonderful time to look forward to when we'll never have to experience losing those dear to us in death ever again!

I met Mildred while working at Pierce Packing Company over 50 years ago. She was a great friend and co-worker. I was impressed with her friendly manner, her great sense of humor and a wonderful smile. She never forgot my birthday even after I moved to Florida. She would include with the card, a clipping about Pierce Packing , a funny joke, newspaper items or some type of ladybug item. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Our family lived on Custer Avenue in the late 40s-early 50s, and this is where we met the Bergs, who lived on Custer at the same time. Bill and I once spent an afternoon taking apart an old radio when we were less than 5 years old, but unfortunately we could not put it back together again!! I remember their dog Duchess, a lovely black labrador, if I remember correctly. After both families moved to the West side, we still saw them a lot, visited, and ate meals together fairly often. I remember that Babe used to set the ice cream out about a half hour before dessert, so it was nice and soft, easy to spoon and enjoy. She was a dear friend of our family. Marilyn Lenington As a child, staying overnight was a special time for me, if it was at the Berg home. Babe was a gracious hostess. She also made sure her daughter, Bonnie, and I attended church on Sunday, even if I stayed overnight on Saturday. Only once did she display disappointment in us. We had been making faces at each other and laughing during the sermon; which caused a few turned heads. Sitting between us was her solution to the problem - and this came with a "now you two girls behave."

Grandma, We miss you like crazy! We know the last 4 years were difficult for you, but that didn't make losing you any easier. What a gift you gave us all in celebrating your 100th birthday!! I would like to say that some of my most treasured childhood memories begin with visiting you and Grandpa in Big Timber. What a special treat to sit at your glass dining table and sip black coffee with you. Also, going to the waterslide was always a super fun time! Growing up, I always saw a smile on your beautiful face. Your smile was contagious! You always made us feel so welcome and comfortable with your kind ways. We all became closer after moving you and Grandpa to Billings. You were ALWAYS the "hostess with the mostest!" I don't ever remember leaving your home hungry or thirsty! I treasure the memory of your chocolate chip cookies. And, whenever I drink a Mountain Dew, I think of you. We were so fortunate to have you as Great-Grandma for so many years. I remember you saying, "I just want to live long enough to see Tealy start school." Well, she's in 8th grade, and we're so blessed that she will remember you forever! Both Tealy and Tace had the honor of calling you "Grandma Babe" for many years. Thank you for being a shining example of kindness! You are truly one of a kind! Whenever we have a rough day or a difficult moment, we will turn to each other and say, "It's never so bad, it could be worse.......FOR CRIPES SAKE." We love you, Grandma!!!! We will look for ladybugs along the way and know they are sent from you with little messages of positivity and kindness. You truly made this world a better place! Heaven has one heck of an angel!!!!
