Obituary

Barbara J. Pirrie of Hedgesville, Montana passed away on September 6, 2018, just shy of her 93rd birthday. Barbara was born on October 4, 1925 to Fred and Borgetta Fortney. She was the third of five children and was the last surviving among her siblings. Her siblings were Emma Lou Clark, Fred Fortney, Charles Fortney, and Neal Fortney. Barbara graduated high school from Harlowton High School in 1944. She then moved to Billings, Montana and worked there until she married the love of her life, Joseph Pirrie on November 8, 1947. A year and a half later, Barbara and Joseph moved to their current home in Hedgesville, Montana where they raised cattle. During that time, Barbara and Joseph had two children, Susan and Jeff. Barbara had many hobbies including fishing, sewing, spending time at the Moose Lodge, dancing, cooking, cards, and spending time with family. Barbara's daughter, Susan Oswald preceded her in death. Surviving members of her family include her husband of 70 years, Joseph; her son Jeff of Hedgesville, Montana; son-in-law David Oswald of Hardin, Montana; three grandchildren Chris (Jeannett) Oswald of Colstrip, Montana, Brian (Paula) Oswald of Minot, North Dakota, and Maria (Ernest) Gates of Glendale, Arizona; six great-grandchildren Anthony, Jasmine, Samantha, Derek, Xavier, and Autumn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
