Lonnie Plain Bull

Lonnie Berk “Julio/Sluggo” Plain Bull Sr., 41, passed away July 9, 2014 at the Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, MT. Lonnie a son of the late Gordon and Phyllis Plain Bull was born on February 16, 1973 in Billings, MT. He was a member of the Crow Tribe. His Indian name “Bishee Itchiish” (Good Buffalo) was given to him by John Truell of Ft. Washakie, WY. He was a member of the Whistling Water Clan and a child of the Ties the Bundle. Lonnie grew up in the Pryor area where he attended schools at St. Charles Mission, Pryor Elementary and graduated from Plenty Coups High School in 1992 where he met the love of his life Caryn Sangrey. He also briefly attended Rocky Mountain College on a scholarship playing basketball and football and also attended Stone Child College. He held several jobs as a laborer for the Crow Tribe, Pryor Clinic and Rocky Boy Schools. Lonnie enjoyed watching and playing basketball, especially with his children. One of his greatest moments was watching his son, Lonnie Jr. and the Box Elder Bears win the Class C State Championship in March 2014. Lonnie was extremely proud of his children and expressed it whenever he could. Lonnie is survived by his wife of 20 years, Caryn, his four children, Lonnie Jr., Wesley, Nathaniel and Rheannon Plain Bull, of the family home in Box Elder, MT. He is also survived by his sisters: Lilly (Dave) Jefferson, Julia Plain Bull, Julie (William) Hugs, Tana (Jason) Shane, Elizabeth (Tronnes) Bird in Ground, Janet Sees the Ground, Renee (Dwayne) Yellowtail, Ollie and Christy Costa, Rosalie (Vernie) Turnsplenty, Wendy Hunts Arrow, Norma (Adlai) Falls Down, Janice (Corn) Little Light and Sandra Rock Above all of Pryor, brothers: Lyman Turk (Shawna) Plain Bull of Pryor, Gordon “Gordy” Plain Bull Jr. of Colorado, Melville (Donya) Stops, Dewayne (Dora) Costa, Dominic Costa, Ray Stands, Joseph “JJ” Rock Above and Harry (Maggie) Rock Above all of Pryor, Michael (Dawn) Stewart, Sr., Lance (Laurie) Rock Above and Blaine Fortner all of Billings. He is also survived by his adopted mother Joanne Rock Above of Pryor, aunts: Maureen Rock Above, Alice (Grady) Hunts Arrow, Clara Big Lake, Ethel (Chester) Bird Hat, Susan, Sherry and Cheryl Rides Horse all of Pryor, Adlee Eckhart, Lavanna (Adrian) Bird, Carmelita Plain Bull and Emma Richardson, uncles: Oliver Costa, Alvin Plain Bull, Mark Spotted Horse and Stanley (Sarah) Rides Horse, a grandfather, Larry (Gwen) Plain Bull Sr., adopted brothers: Kevin (Carrie) Old Coyote of Crow Agency and Jerry (Gladys) Flat Lip of Rocky Boy. Tobacco Society brother and sister: Dana and Anita Old Coyote of Hardin, father-in-law James Sangrey, mother-in-law Jeanette Demontiney, brothers-in-law Pete Demontiney, Ryan and Michael Sangrey, sisters-in-law Dawn Sangrey and Lisa Stump, and all his friends and buddies of Baapuah, Rocky Boy, Box Elder and all walks of life. He is preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Phyllis Plain Bull, a daughter, aunts: Doris Rock Above, Adeline Plain Feather and Belva Costa, uncles: Joseph, Benny, Alfred and Lee Rock Above, grandparents: Julia and Harry Rock Above, Frank and Betty Plain Bull and Leona Rides Horse, brothers: Arnold “Arnie” Stewart Sr. and Grady “Little Boy” Hunts Arrow Jr., sister, Adeline Rock Above and a nephew, Lyman T. Plain Bull Jr. Extended families: Lion Shows, Goes Ahead, Medicine Crow, Howe, Boggess, Davis, Mullenberg, Schenderline, Eastman, Holds the Enemy and descendents of Buffalo Coat. Our family is large and our friends our vast if we have forgotten anyone please accept our sincerest apologies. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at Plenty Coups High School.
