Arlen Poitra

Arlen Eugene Poitra met his savior, Jesus Christ, early Monday morning January 26, 2015. Arlen was born on June 7, 1955 to Robert and Gertrude Poitra in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Arlen attended Catholic schools in Belcourt and Central High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He graduated from MSU-B in March of 2011. Arlen was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 82 and at one time owned his own business. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Douglas Poitra. Arlen is survived by his mother Gertrude (Patnaude) Poitra, sisters Carol Alloy (husband David and son Lee Alan Morrison), Catherine Poitra (husband Paul Anderson and son Christopher Briedenbach) and Gail Carney (husband Luke and sons Eric and Brandon). Arlen was a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. Arlen is survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins. When the cousins got together, “Watch out!” They had a great time, teasing each other constantly... Arlen died of liver cancer. During the many Doctor appointments the question always arose: “Do you drink?” The answer was, “not for 13 years”. Arlen sobered up on December 8, 2001 with a little help from the state of Montana. He was the 1st graduate of the “WATCH” program to get his driver's license back. He was very active in Alcoholics Anonymous helping countless alcoholics in their quest for sobriety. Arlen always had a strong faith and AA allowed him to use that faith. Arlen was surrounded by friends from the diagnosis to his death. He was at total peace with God and his fellows, a great example of faith. Arlen respected and loved his father and his father would have been so proud. Prayer Service 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 29, Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 30 both at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Services at St. Ann's Church in Belcourt, ND include a Vigil Service 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5 and Funeral Service 10 a.m. Friday, February 6.
