Ronald Redfield

Following a courageous and well-fought battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald “Red” Redfield, 72, on September 18, 2013 in Billings, Montana Ron was born on July 1, 1941 in Spokane, Washington. At age 3, after the death of his mother, Theresa Young, Ron went to live with Theresa's sister and brother-in-law, Mable & Zell Redfield in Billings, Montana. Ron (known to his friends as Red) lived in Billings attending school until he joined the US Navy. He served on a number of Navy vessels, one of his favorite being the USS Reeves; he also saw combat in Vietnam. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1986. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Billings where he explored and enjoyed different career opportunities and established many friendships. Anyone who knew Red most likely listened to his colorful stories of traveling the world and his many experiences in the Navy. He enjoyed spending time with friends and sharing an affinity of NASCAR and football, especially cheering on his team the San Diego Chargers. Ron enjoyed attending numerous Naval reunions; just last year he delighted in going to the USS Reeves reunion in Charleston, South Carolina. Ron is survived by his siblings, Pearl Scott of Billings, Montana, Mignon (Ron) Waterman of Helena, Montana, Walter (Faye) Redfield of Lewistown, Montana and Darrell (Joyce) Young of Great Falls, Montana; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 22nd from 1-3 PM at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Ave, Billings, Montana. Service: On Monday, September 23rd at 11 AM there will be a graveside service with Military Honors at Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery, 55 Buffalo Trail Road, in Laurel, Montana.
