Milo Beug

Milo Beug was born September 10, 1923, the son of Alfred and Ethel Beug, cattle ranchers in Western South Dakota, 30 miles east of Sturgis, South Dakota. Milo grew up on the ranch during the terrible hard times of the (30's) Great Depression. He attended Sturgis High School and the South Dakota School of Mines. He served in the US Navy for two years during World War 2. He was a radar man aboard aircraft carriers in the South Pacific. While home on leave in 1945, Milo met Norma Rose, the daughter of John and Marguerite Rose of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They corresponded for a year while Milo was still in the Navy. Milo was discharged from the Navy in 1946. A year later Milo and Norma were married in Sturgis, S.D. The marriage was blessed with 5 children: Dr. John Beug, Cathy Smith, Mary Hollenbeck, Stanley Beug, Dr. Joanna Beug; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. In 1950 Milo and Norma started an interior design business in Sturgis. In 1961 they sold the business and moved to Denver, where they restarted their business which operated until 1990. In 1993 they moved back to the ranch in South Dakota where they opened and operated Bulldog Campground until they sold it in 2003. Having liquefied all of their property in S.D. they moved to Red Lodge, MT in 2004. Milo assisted Dr. John Beug in his riding arena and worked with his horses which kept Milo active and in good health. Milo was an active member of both the Mason's and Elk's Lodge. A member of the American Legion, he was in 1961 Legionnaire of the year for the state of South Dakota. He was for 10 years a member of the Honor Guard at the Black Hills national Cemetery. Since moving to Red Lodge he has been active in the Legion Post #17. He was Vice Commander and Chairman of the Legions High school Oratorical Scholarship Program. Milo led a fruitful life, was ever positive, was always successful in business, and was a loving father and husband. Service: Memorial Services are to be held at Our Savior's Episcopal Church, 2nd & Carbon Streets in Joliet, MT on March 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held in the National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD sometime during the summer of 2012.
