Obituary

Vera Timm Rollins, 97, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Highgate Senior Living in Billings, Montana, with her family by her side. She was born July 20, 1913 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of George and Margaret (Jackson) Levette. During the depression when her father died, Vera dropped out of high school in 10th grade and obtained work to support her mother and two younger siblings. In her 40s without a high school diploma, she passed the entrance exam to Ohio State University and was placed on academic probation for one year. However, she earned a Bachelors Degree, Cum Laude in social work. She went on to graduate school and received a Masters Degree in social work. On June 1, 1940 Vera was united in marriage to Thomas William “Bill” Timm in Detroit. In the late 40s and early 50s Vera started a Cub Scout troop in Franklin, IL and helped raise funds through the Lakes Association to build a dock, diving board, and beach area, where she taught the towns kids how to swim. Vera was politically active and in the 1960s she was a part of the 100,000 mothers that marched on the White House in protest of the Vietnam War. Her husband Bill died in 2004. On June 5, 2005 she married George Rollins in Billings. Vera was a very kind and generous person with a great sense of humor plus a passion for classical music. Vera is survived by her husband George; sons, Peter (Carol) Timm, David Timm; grandchildren, Andrea (Cody) Rieger and their children Turk and Tylee; Ryan Timm; Courtney Rice, Caitlin Pfluge, Matthew Pfluge (Sonja Ellefson); step-daughters, Judy Rollins, Kara (Jay) Levine, Ruth (Kent) Brocklebank, Meridith Rollins (Jerry Meger), Andrea Rollins, Laurel (Tim) Walsh, Mary (Lynn) Grant. Vera was preceded in death by her late husband Thomas William “Bill” Timm; parents George and Margaret Levette; brothers George and David Levette; sisters Una Watermolen and Margaret Lingeman. Cemetery: Interment of ashes will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. Service: A Memorial Service for Vera will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Dahl Funeral Chapel.

I often remember Vera with such wonderful and fond memories. She was an important part of my life and a big blessing to me for a short time in the 90's. May she rest in peace and her family be comforted by their precious memories.
