Glen Roysdon

Glen Eugene Roysdon, 91, of Billings, formerly of Laurel and Red Lodge, joined his Heavenly Father in the early morning of Friday, August 9, 2013. His passing was due to complications with congestive heart failure. Glen was born on Jan. 25, 1922, in Red Lodge, MT, to Morris Orin Roysdon and Lucy Alice (Owens) Roysdon, the youngest of three children. He attended school at Clearwater Creek until 1929 and then moved to Laurel where he graduated from Laurel High School in 1939. Throughout his youth, Glen worked at the family business, Roysdon Furniture Store, until he went to college at the University of Wyoming, in Laramie, pursuing a degree in Geology. On July 15, 1942, he married his high school sweetheart, Edna Ann Wight, in Columbus, MT. In 1943, leaving behind his wife and new born daughter, Sandra Gale, Glen enlisted in the Army focusing on the Glider Pilot Training program where he eventually became a Flight Officer. Toward the end of the war, he flew gliders in the Rhineland in Central Europe, Ireland, France and England. In 1945, Glen was discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps in Los Angeles, CA and moved back to Laurel joining his parents once again operating the family business. On Aug. 14, 1949, they celebrated the birth of their son, Glen Daniel Roysdon. In 1957, the family moved to Billings where Glen went to work briefly for Kuchera Furniture before opening his own business in 1958, Home Furniture and Appliance, with partner, Joe Naglich. In 1962, Glen returned to the Roysdon Furniture until he retired in 1984. For a brief period of time, Glen pursued his love of geology by prospecting for uranium and gold. Glen had an unbreakable bond with his brother, Dale Arthur Roysdon, from their youth until the tragic day his brother died on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), in St. Mere Eglise, France. From the time of Dale's death until Glen's death, he spent many hours reading and watching WWII documentaries hoping that he read about or catch a glimpse of Dale. He was proud and honored when the Army Reserve Center in Billings dedicated their new center to Dale by naming it, Roysdon's Hall. Glen was preceded in death by his infant sister, his brother, Dale A. Roysdon, parents, Morris O. and Lucy A. Roysdon and wife, Ann E. Roysdon. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra G. Scott (Williard) of Billings, his son Glen D. Roysdon of Billings, and his three grandchildren, Tracy A. Scott and Christian N. Scott of Billings and Sienna O'Shea of Las Vegas, Nevada. Cemetery: Inurnment will follow at Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery in Laurel. Service: Services will be officiated by Fr. Steven Zabrocki at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone Ave. Billings.
