Obituary
Phyllis Sanchez, 74, of Billings, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. She was born April 27, 1938 in Billings, the daughter of Felix and Margaret (Alva) Ontiveros. She attended Garfield grade school and Lincoln Jr. High. On October 23, 1954 she was united in marriage to David R. Sanchez at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. To this union, eight children were born. She attended EMC and after her children were in school she started her teaching career. She worked for Head Start at North Park and at Daycare at First Congregational Church. Phyllis worked for Migrant Council and set up an education program for children in the 70's, located in Poly Drive School. She was also employed with Billings Deaconess Hospital for a short period of time. Phyllis enjoyed traveling with David in the motor home every summer with the grandchildren, and visiting family in California. Favorite activities included teaching her grandchildren how to swim, lifeguarding at South Park pool and backyard barbeques. She liked dancing and participated in the dance programs at Lincoln Center. Phyllis is survived by her husband David; children Dennis Sanchez, Diana (Hal) Parrott, Ronald (Carrie Ann) Sanchez, Ben Sanchez, Bonnie Sanchez, Gary Sanchez, Frank (Billie) Parrott, Felicia (Rafa) Sanchez Rivera; grandchildren, Shawn (Kim), Emily, Greg, Chase, Tristan, Kathy, Ricardo, Summer, Levi, Antonio, Esperanza, Miles, Anaia and Frankie; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Carlie, Ethan, Jacob, Caleb and Ovionna; brother Paul (Rose) Ontiveros; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom sisters Marti, Dorthy, Norma and Josie; daughter Dawn; son Davey. Phyllis's family would like to say a special thank you to her daughter, Diana and niece, Lori, for the comfort and care they gave Phyllis. Service: Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Memorial mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, also be at Our Lady of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Diane, Dave, et al.... You may not remember me,but Phyllis taught for me in the Migrant Children Program beginning in 1969 and through the 70's. I found her to be a very hard worker, good staff member, and one who saved me a lot of headaches. She also had us over to your house on Cook for a Mexican dinner. It was a great meal! I'm saddened to her of her passing and my prayers are with you. Clayton Croff

Phyllis, Dave and family were and are like a second family to me. I have many memories of Phyllis, too many to write down. One memory that sticks out in mind is the trip in the motor home to Nevada, California and Mexico. She and Dave let me tag along for a small vacation one summer with them and it was a very memorable experience for me. She always made me feel comfortable and would always listen to me when I had problems, issues or just listen in general. I will miss you Phyllis....

My condolences go out to the Sanchez and Ontiveras families.Phyllis sounds like the kind of person who was unselfishly dedicated to leaving the world a better place than how she found it.Dave was a special buddy when we grew up in the old neighborhood over on Cook and Howard Ave.Being married to Phyllis for over 58 years, he certainly knew that he wanted to share his life with only the best.

Phyllis was very special to the Dobrenz family. We grew up on Cook Avenue just a few houses away from the Sanchez’s. In the early days, rarely a day would go by when we didn’t welcome a visit from Phyllis or one of her children, bringing us an overage of food due to a broken box from the loading crew. In return, Phyllis would ask Dot to bake pies for her when she had special occasions. Together Phyllis and Dave raised a genuine family at heart who will continue on without her and has left us with many fond memories.
