Mary Schneider

Mary Patricia “Pat” Schneider, daughter of Allan Francisco Scott and Mary Viola Gilmore, was born on February 21, 1926 in Sidney, Montana. On August 20, 2015 Pat passed peacefully on to join her husband, many family members, friends and her Savior. Pat was raised in Lambert, Montana with her older brother Louis, older sisters, Dorothy, Delyle and younger sister Kathleen. All graduated from Lambert High School while enjoying close friends and a close knit community centered around agriculture and the support of that industry. Pat graduated from the Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls, Montana in 1947 and began working with Dr. Harper in Sidney when she met her future husband, Nick Schneider, as he was preparing for a tonsillectomy. Following a short stint in Chicago, Pat returned to Sidney to marry Nick Schneider in 1949. After starting their family in Sidney, Pat and Nick moved to Billings in 1964 and together they raised 4 children Nick, Julie, Mary Sue and Allan. Pat has 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who have kept her amused over the last several decades. Pat has been involved in the Catholic Daughters for over 50 years and was back in the working world as her children all reached their school years. Pat began renewing her nursing career by working at the local retirement homes followed by a 17 year career working at the Billings Vocational Center teaching LPN's between 1971 and 1988. During this time, Pat returned for additional schooling and attended Montana State University earning her BS in Nursing in 1977-78. Pat took delight in earning this degree that allowed her to continue teaching future LPN's and sharing her love of nursing with future generations of nurses. Pat enjoyed reading about the world and traveled to Europe, Ireland and New York being her favorites and to visit her grandchildren. Favorite pastimes included playing golf at the Highlands and playing bridge with her lady friends. Survivors Include Nick and Mimi Schneider of Billings and their children, Nick and his wife Katie, Chris and his wife Jenn; Scott and Julie Rowen of Billings and their children Matt, Sean and Lisa; Mary Sue Engel and her children Hannah, Emily, Cavin and his wife Elle; and Allan and Kathy Schneider of Houston and their children Michael, Joseph, Jacob and Kathleen; her sisters Delyle Jarvis and Kathleen Bettise of Billings and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her husband Nick, her brother Louis Scott and her sister Dorothy Stoltz. The Family would like to say “thanks” to the West Park family of caregivers and Rocky Mountain Hospice for their support and kind consideration to Pat over the last several years. A vigil service will be held Monday August 24th at 7:00 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Tuesday August 25th at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
