Obituary

Clarence Henry Schraer, 90, of Billings passed away on July 27, 2018. He followed his wife of 62 years who passed away 7 months earlier. Clarence brought joy to those who were lucky enough to cross paths with him. His gift of gab and his sense of humor was something he would be best known for. It was his goal to make people smile and laugh. He was always looking for a good joke to tell or some odd gizmo to make someone laugh. He was sure to let you know that "you do good work" if you were helping him in any way. His compassion for those less fortunate touched many lives. Clarence was born in Shiner, TX on April 25, 1928 to Bernard and Josephine Schraer. He grew up on a farm in Texas. He stayed to help his parents run the farm for 4 years after he graduated from high school. In 1950 he joined the Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Doris in Houston TX where they both were in door to door cookware sales. They married in 1956 and moved to Billings, Montana in 1957. In 1961 he started the General Maintenance Company which he owned and operated for the next 35 years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Optimists. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years. Clarence was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his time out in nature with family and friends. Clarence is survived by Diane (Greg) Morrow of AZ, Linda (Bob) Scott of Billings, Patti Martin of Billings, Theresa (Chris) Cornelius of NE. He has 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris; stepdaughter Judy Bell; son Mike Schraer and grandson Bradley Morrow; brothers Alvin and Joe Schraer; sisters Benita Schraer, Etta Schraer, Dorthy Walters and Frances Pilat.

We are all blessed by having known Clarence and Doris.Great friends of my family and myself. Clarence Schraer was also my confirmation sponsor@ St Patrick's Church approx 1965. Some of the best memories were of hunting and then processing the meat into sausage etc. I still have the confirmation card he gave me and it is with my other treasures in an old stagecoach strong box my father Joe Herold (my mother Clara Herold) gave me. He is one of my greatest heros that I was ever able to know. I visited Clarence and Doris Sept. 2016 with my son Fred and talked with Clarence on the phone about a month ago. Billings will seem a little bit lonely without him. My condolences to all. But it will be only a few moments (it will seem ) before we all join Clarence and Doris in the Eternal Heavenly Home. God Bless America- we have lost a great man from our midst!

Please accept my condolences on the passing of my cousin, Clarence. Although I have few memories, I do recall many times going to the farm of Aunt Josephine (my Mother, Regina Klos Todaro's sister) and Uncle Ben when I was a small child. May he rest in peace.

I don't know any of you, but I did have the acquaintance of Clarence at Highgate Senior Living. He was one of those unfailing rays of sunshine in the dining room and in the hallways when we were there to visit my Mom and Dad. What a sweet man, who always had a smile, maybe a story, and usually a joke to share. Please accept my sympathies to your family.

My dad was the funny guy in line at any store that had a story or joke to tell. If you were down he would see that and make it his priority to try to brighten your day. If you were lucky enough to meet him I hope he blessed you with a smile. He is going to missed by many!
