Obituary
Marvin P. Schrupp, 93, lifelong Billings resident, passed away peacefully Friday, April 20, 2012, at RiverStone Hospice. Marvin was born September 5, 1918 in Billings to August and Emily A. (Lickfett) Schrupp. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1937 and worked as a carpenter until entering the U.S. Army Signal Corps on February 7, 1942 at Ft. Lewis, WA. He served as a teletype operator in the U.S., Africa (Algeria-French Morocco, Tunisia), Italy (Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno), France and Germany (Rhineland) during WWII. Marvin was discharged on October 9, 1945 at Camp McCoy, WI. Marvin returned to Billings where he married Virginia Lois Getts on October 16, 1945. He started working at the Billings U.S. Post Office as a clerk in March 1947 and worked at various windows. Marvin was an assistant civil service examiner and was later promoted to area procurement officer (contract technician). He retired from the USPS January 12, 1979. Marvin will be remembered by his family and his friends as having a wonderful smile and personality and a great sense of humor. He built the family home with little help and enjoyed gardening and the Billings Gazette crossword puzzles. His mind stayed sharp to the end. Marvin is survived by his loving family: wife, Virginia; daughter, Joan (Gale) Sherrodd of La Mirada, CA; grandsons, Sean (Roxann) Sherrodd and Shane (Devon) Sherrodd and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Kyle and Sadie Sherrodd, all of Hesperia, CA. He is further survived by his brother, Allan (Leona) Schrupp of Billings; nephew, Larry (Joann) Schrupp of Colstrip, MT; and niece, Sheri (Jim) Harvey of Froid, MT. Very special thanks are extended to friends Curt and Gina Brott and their sons, Wilson, Mitchell, and Paul for always “being there” when the family was far away and for their love of Marvin. Also remembered and thanked by the family is Cheryl Mus for her help and continuing concern. The kindness of neighbors and other friends is also deeply appreciated. More gratitude is extended to the staff of Grand Park Vintage Suites for their exceptional care. Finally, many thanks to the staff of RiverStone Hospice where Marvin spent his final days. Service: A graveside memorial service and celebration of Marvin's life will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Last Supper section on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 2800 4th Avenue N, Billings, MT 59101 where Marvin was a long time member.

I never met Marvin. I met his grandson Shane while my daughter was a student of his in high school. Marvin had a bold and beautiful impact on Shane. It shows in the way that most matters in life which is how people interact with others around them. Shane credits his grandfather with the many ways he does things. I have come, over the years, to admire and respect Shane and through him his family. I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of such a caring and inspirational person in their lives.

Marvin will greatly be missed. His unconditional love and care that he had for me and my family will never be forgotten. On behalf of the staff at Vision Optical all there send there thoughts and prayers. He was always a ray sunshine when I would go and get him and bring him to the store. May Gods love surround and comfort you at this time of loss.

We never had the opportunity to meet Marvin. We were able to see great pictures of him, and hear fun stories of a man who obviously was well loved by his entire family. What a kind and gentle man. Our sympathies go to all of the family during this time of saying good bye. He will be missed, but remembered always.

My condolences go to Virginia and especially Joan (whom I new in our "growing up years). I spent many hours at her house and her parents were always so very nice, I have many good memories of those days. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
