Glenn Silvis

Glenn was born on September 4, 1930, to Neil and Myrna Silvis in Coryville, PA and passed into the hands of the Lord on November 22, 2017. Glenn was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Otto Eldred High School in 1949. Glenn worked at a bakery and had plans to become a highway patrolman. His plans were abruptly altered when he was drafted into the Air Force in 1950. He was introduced to the love of his life, Joan Burgoon, through a blind date arranged by his sister. Glenn and Joan were married on May 2, 1953. Glenn had a full military carrier of 24 years. Together they traveled to several states and countries retiring to Billings, Montana in 1974. Glenn always wanted enough children to field a baseball team. Together their family grew to 9 children, 28 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. During his military carrier he was in cryogenics, air conditioning and refrigeration of the Minute Man Missile, First Sergeant and retired as Senior Master Sergeant in 1974. Upon moving to Montana, he worked 21 years for Power Transmission Equipment and retired in 1995. Glenn had many interests and hobbies over the years. While his sons were young, he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America. They frequently camped and Glenn was known for his cherry cobbler. If you weren't first in line to dish up, you were out of luck. For many years, Glenn played 3rd base on different military softball teams. After breaking his thumb, he hung up his cleats and he took on the role of coach for his boys' teams. He enjoyed playing cards, family, and Saturday night home-made pizza. Glenn had a passion for bowling and bowled on several leagues. He bowled 3-4 games 3 times a week until he was 85 years of age. His heart was still willing, but his body was complaining so he had to decrease to about once a week. Glenn loved sharing stories of the past and was willing to give advice and counsel when asked. He will be loved and missed “Most Definitely” by his brother, Dick, many nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids, great-grandkids, and other loved ones. We will miss time spent with you and love you dearly.
