Obituary
Joan was born on November 6, 1934, to Earl and Clara Burgoon in Emporium, PA and passed into the hands of the Lord on November 18, 2014. Joan was the oldest of seven children. Joan graduated from Cameron County High School and was briefly enrolled in nursing school until she was introduced through a blind date arranged by her future sister-in-law, Ine, to the love of her life, Glenn W. Silvis. Glenn was in the Air Force and being transferred to Illinois. Joan said “no way that man's going without me.” Grandma Burgoon was livid and wanted Joan to finish her nursing school. Joan won out, however, and she and Glenn were married on May 2, 1953. Together they traveled to several states and countries retiring to Montana in 1974. Glenn always wanted enough children to field a baseball team and together their family grew to 9 children, 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, enough to fill several baseball teams. Joan stayed home and raised her children until they moved to Montana. She then went to work at Sears for 25 years. After that was Hallmark, Shopko, and Ben Franklin. She loved to talk and no one was a stranger for long. Joan enjoyed her family but also enjoyed - sewing with the ladies at Bernina, scrapbooking, Saturday night made from scratch pizza, playing cards, taking pictures of everybody with food in their mouth, and spending time with Glenn and their 4-legged kids. Joan also had a strong faith in God and was a member of St. Pius X Parish since 1974. She will be missed by her sisters Marian and Beverly, her brother Jim, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones. We're going to miss your laughter, your smile, your sense of humor, and keeping Dad in line. You always will be loved, remembered, and missed as the most awesome mom. We love you Mom - Steve (Kim) Silvis, Val Bradley, Pam (Art) Mulkey, Greg (Colleen) Silvis, Brenda (Kim) Renken, Eric Silvis, Beth (Bryan) Roach, Mark (Traci) Silvis and Todd (Tammy) Silvis. I will love you forever - Glenn. Memorial Services to honor and celebrate Joan's life will be held Friday, November 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 717 18th Street West, Billings, Montana 59102. We were friends for a long time. we sewed together, laughed together and cried together. We even lived together for several months and shared our entire families.
