Obituary
Marjorie Olmstead Small passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on March 29, 2010 at Jensen Cottage in Billings, Montana. Marjorie was born in Marshall County, Iowa to Clare and Georgia Olmstead on January 10, 1923.Marjorie and her sister Clarice spent their childhood working and playing on the family farm. They played basketball and were members of their high school marching band. Together they enrolled in the cadet nursing program in Marshalltown in 1943. Marjorie married Harry Lewis Small in November 1944. After his Navy tour in the Pacific Theater, they relocated from Chicago to Marshalltown. While living in Iowa, they were blessed with two daughters, Janie & Bonnie.Marjorie was active in Vienna Aid Society, DAR, Garden Club and the United Methodist Church. She was a dedicated mother who was involved as a leader for her daughters' Girl Scout troops. She was an accomplished seamstress. Her sewing talents ranged from doll clothes to prom dresses. She was an expert at orchestrating the yearly family camping trips to various areas of the country, especially the Rocky Mountain States. A love for the mountains lured the family to relocate to Laramie, Wyoming in 1965. Marjorie and Harry spent many hours hiking and fishing in the nearby mountains. They took pride in hosting mountain cookouts for visiting friends and family. Marjorie's ""cowgirl life"" in Wyoming included caring for and riding her horse Hondo.Her professional employment in Iowa and Wyoming included newborn care nursing and school food service management. Throughout her careers she developed many lasting relationships.In 2005 Marjorie began a new life in Billings. She enjoyed her active life at West Park Village. Her final home was at Jensen Cottage, part of the St. John Lutheran Ministry Campus, where she was lovingly cared for by Elder Sharaths, (specialized caregiver for the elderly).Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her parents and her sister Clarice Miller. Marjorie is survived by her daughters: Janie (Willard) Hull of Billings, Bonnie (Larry) Terbovich of Broomfield, Colorado; her grandchildren: Jennifer Hull, Allison (Matt) Walsh, Andrew (Kimmelin) Hull, Mathew Terbovich, Molly (Anthony) Ridenhour; five great-grandchildren: Ellie, Landon and Gabriel Hull, Conor and McKenzie Walsh.Marjorie's family wishes to extend their deep appreciation and thankfulness to the staff at Jensen cottage for the loving care she received during the last year of her life. Marjorie touched many lives with her gentle spirit and kind heart. She will be missed by many. Memories of her life will be celebrated during a summer-time memorial in Iowa.
