Patricia Smith

On April 12, 2016, Patricia "Patty" Ann Smith departed to go be with her Lord in Heaven. A woman worth showcasing, Patty's story began March 17, 1941 with her birth to John L. and Genevieve (Curry) Smith in Billings, Montana. Growing up under the rural Big Sky, Patty Ann was raised in the Bull Mountains near Roundup, Montana. Life here was wild, the lessons were often tough, and this taught Patty Ann to overcome adversity young in life. Early in her childhood, Patty Ann was involved in a severe accident which would leave her permanently disabled and facing many barriers. Yes, Patty Ann was feisty, and her determination was greater than anything that stood in her way and the life she would lead was testament to this. Through her teenage years, Patty Ann would spend much of her time with her Uncle Ray and Aunt Ann Hanna's family, and it was there that she found a second home. With their support, Patty Ann graduated from Ryegate High School in 1962 and went on to lead a very independent life. Patty Ann lived by the "Early to bed, early to rise" adage, and paired with her hardworking nature, she was the best employee for whatever business was fortunate enough to have her. She finished her working career at Goodwill. No matter what the weather was like and despite her not having a driver's license; whether by foot, by taxi or by bus, Patty Ann was always on time, bringing a little sunshine with her. However, she was not all work and no play either. Patty Ann loved to play bingo and the piano, and if you were to ask anyone who had heard her, they'd tell you that the piano was Patty Ann's second language. She especially loved the honky-tonk sound and, if she could, she'd put tacks on the strings to give those keys that honky-tonk twang! Patty Ann wasn't above having a brew either. Especially liking her Coors Lite, even if it was 9 a.m., previously opened and warm. Not to mention if she had popcorn to go with it! She could often be found enjoying this combo in her home at 707 North 30th Street that she loved to keep organized and well decorated with pretty trinkets and fresh flowers. She continued this with her move to Prairie Towers, where she lived many of her later years with her favorite baby doll, before her final move to Aspen Meadows due to health reasons. It was here that she finally grew out her fingernails, which she loved to keep polished and always showed off. Also very devout in her faith, Patty Ann always gave glory and credit to her Lord, and because she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior, she will spend eternity with Him in Heaven. Patty Ann will always be remembered and loved for her big personality, despite her small stature, and the lessons she taught us about life will always endure. Patty Ann is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gordon. She is survived by her brother John of Texas, her aunt Dorothy Curry, 3 nieces and a nephew, along with numerous cousins and countless friends. Funeral services for Patty will be at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 12:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Memories may be shared at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com
