Darrel Smothers

Darrel Smothers went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 11, 2018 surrounded by his family. Darrel was born in January of 1944 in Pendleton, OR to Willis and Dorothy Smothers. The family then moved to Sonora, CA where Darrel graduated from high school in 1962. Immediately after high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was then stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1966. Darrel then attended California State University in Fullerton, CA where he obtained a degree in business administration & accounting. In the summer of 1971, he married Carol Sue Grenier at the First Presbyterian Church in Missoula, MT. They then made their home in Southern California. In 1993, he and Carol moved their family to Missoula. Professionally, Darrel loved to crunch the numbers for businesses and personally he loved the simple pleasures in life. He loved going for long drives and enjoying the quiet back roads of Montana, as well as cheering on the Montana Men's Grizzly basketball team. He enjoyed old restored cars, a good sandwich, huckleberry shakes and a brisk walk. He was incredibly proud of his wife and daughters, nothing made him feel more like a king than to be surrounded by them. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ray. He is survived by his wife Carol of Billings; daughters Molly Smothers of Missoula, Jill Neal (Seth) of Boise, ID, Jessica Scheidler (Zachary) of Billings & Emily Smothers of Missoula; grandchildren Carter &Luke Neal, Jael & Eden Scheidler, & Matthew (Emily & Josh). Darrel is also survived by his brother Victor Smothers (Linda); sister Donna Howell (Jim); sister-in-law, Helen Smothers & several nieces and nephews. Darrel passed away due to advanced Alzheimer's. His family is deeply grateful to the staff at Edgewood Vista Memory Care facility in Billings for the kind & compassionate care he received this past year. Darrel was devoted in his walk with the Lord and he now is home in Heaven!!
