Vera Sorlie

Vera A. Sorlie, 91, Pompeys Pillar, MT was called to heaven March 18, 2018. Vera Arlone Sorlie was born March 9, 1927 in Gallatin Gateway, MT to Fred and Mattie Spike. She was raised and educated in Hettinger, ND from where Vera was the only one of her family to graduate. On September 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Darrold G. Sorlie in Hettinger, ND. Vera met Darrold at a dance and he became the love of her life for 63 years. Throughout their marriage they were transferred by Darrold's company to Minneapolis, MN and Rapid City, SD., retiring in Pompeys Pillar, Mt. Darrold passed away in April 2012. When first married, Vera worked at Pepsi Cola Bottling in Hettinger, was a bookkeeper for the Martins in Nemo for a while and worked betting booth at horse races during the fair in Billings. Vera was a beautiful crochet artist making afghans and sewing decorative ladies on placemats. As a seamstress she made her children's clothing when they were little. Vera was a hardworking housewife for most of her life, raising their children while her husband traveled for his job. Vera also enjoyed yard work and making the landscape as beautiful and perfect as her cheerful home. Vera is survived by three children who all know they held a special place in her heart. Lynn Sorlie (Liz), Billings, MT, Penny Vermandel, Pompeys Pillar, MT and Miles Sorlie of Billings, MT; five grandsons; one great grandson; sister-in-law, Lorraine Dietterle, Meadow, SD; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fed and Mattie; husband, Darrold; siblings, Claude (Sonny), Irene, Alice, Blanche, Mabel, Beryl, Marvin and Gene; and son-in-law, Keith Vermandel. Our family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Severa, Dr. Murray and the rest of the Billings Clinic staff. Also to Pam and Kathy, with Compassus Hospice, for the wonderful support and gentle care during the last days of Mom's life. Cremation has taken place and no funeral services are planned. Interment will take place in Hettinqer ND at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Charity of choice.
