William Blewett

William “Bill” Andrew Blewett, 74, of Billings, Montana, passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2019, after a year long struggle with cancer. He was born to Gordon & Beatrice Blewett on September 22, 1944, in Butte, Montana, and attended grade school and high school there. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Butte, and at the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army as a chaplain's assistant. He was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division and, following basic training, was deployed to Vietnam where he served with integrity, honor and courage. As a result of his experiences in the war, he suffered deeply with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but with time and his faith, he was able to overcome those awful memories. After his discharge from the Army, Bill purchased a home in Billings and settled into life there. He took on a job at Western Builders Supply, and worked his way up to general manager of the store, a position that he held for many years until his retirement in 2012. Bill learned camping skills from his father, who regularly took the family on camping and fishing trips during the summer. From cub scouts through boy scouts and throughout his entire adulthood, Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, hunting and fishing – especially dry fly fishing, and was very good at all of those. He was devoted to his dogs, and loved taking them camping and fishing whether he went alone, with his friends, or with his family, they were always by his side. He was a long time, and devout member of the Rocky Mountain Community Church in Billings, and made many friends there. His magnificent smile, and his very unforgettable laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his younger sister Melene Myers, and is survived by his two older brothers Dick and Ray. A celebration of his life will be held at the Rocky Mountain Community Church in Billings on June 15, 2019, at 11:00 am.
