Roy Blom

On December 24, 2014 Roy Blom left this life to move on to the next where he was met by his wife May and their son Roy Gale (Sonny). Roy was born June 14, 1920 to Axel and Alma Blom. He was the 6th of 8 children and grew up on the family farm in Lignite, ND. He met and married May Hinn Sayler in 1941. Along with May he got five beautiful daughters. Roy and May were blessed with their son in 1942. Roy served in the Army during World War 2 where he landed on Omaha Beach the day after D-Day. Roy earned two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for his service being one of only two in his platoon to survive. Roy and May spent many happy years in Minot, ND working at Northwest Bible College. They retired to Albany, OR where they could enjoy the ocean. They spent their last years in Billings, MT to be close to family. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, May, their son, Sonny, step-daughters, Dolly Cathcart, Carmen Uecker and Carol Larson and all of his siblings. Roy is survived by step-daughters, Phyllis Blom and Donna (Carl) Love and many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Roy's great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Roy's family would like to thank the staff at St. Johns for their care and kindness. We would also like to give a special thanks to Dale and Connie Blom who cared so well for him in his last days. Memorial services will be 10:00 am, Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Home, Chapel Court in the Ocee Johnson Chapel.
