Ben Tryan

Ben L Tryan 1933-2017 We would like to express what that dash between his birth and death meant to us. Dad had many nicknames, to those of us who loved him the most it was Dad, Pa, Grandpa and Papa. For the rest of the world dad was known as Ben...Ben L...Benny or his favorite joke "I've Ben Tryan all my life" was born on March 15th to Albert and Winnifred Tryan. Dad passed away at the age of 84 due to the complications of Polycystic Kidney Disease on November 2nd. Dad was born number 6 out of 9 children. At one point in his life he and brother Bill were left on the farm at 14 and 16 when Grandma and Grandpa and the rest of the family moved into town. Dad was born and raised on the homestead south of Flaxville (referred to by many and lovingly by family as "Tryansville"). He lived there up until just a few short months prior to his death. Dad had an 8th grade education and went to school just a few short miles from home. He was a farmer and loved to drive John Deere machinery. Dad was amazing in that he could fix about anything. He was very proud of his heated shop and would spend hours in it fixing, welding, grinding on anything that needed repairs. Dad loved to reminisce about his ancestors and could talk for hours about what he remembered of them as he was growing up. We are at peace knowing he is with them now. Dad enlisted in the Army in 1953 as a MP and was honorably discharged in 1961. He married Lois Syrtveit in 1955. To that union came 6 children, Bruce, Lorrie, Lana, Lisa, Bob and a baby daughter that was born at 7 months and didn't survive. Lana and Lisa are twins that mom and dad didn't know they were having until they were born in 1964 and if you asked dad...he'd say that Lisa was the best surprise he'd ever had. Just kidding, that's Lisa's story. Dad loved, loved, loved his Grandchildren, Josh, Wyatt, Jake, Rich (also known as "Little Ben"), Lauren and Cortnee and his Great-Granddaughters Alexis and Cali. Each of them meant something special to him in his heart. At meals they were always seated between Dad and Mom and at some point, dad would end up laughing his fool head off to something they had said. Dad is survived by his brothers, Gary, Billy; sisters, Margorie, Corrine, Meredith, Linda and their families; children Bruce, Bob, Lisa and Lana (Jan) and their families. Meeting dad at the gates of Heaven are his parents; sisters, Elaine and Mary Lou; his baby daughter whom has no name, and his daughter Lorrie who passed at the age of 4 and would always bring a tear to his eye if he were to talk about her. In the words in a song called "Dancing in the Sky", I hope that the Angels know what they have and I hope it's so nice up in Heaven since you arrived! You've made so many people's lives richer here on earth Dad; we can only imagine what it was like at your homecoming. We will miss you so much Dad, it was an honor being at your bedside while you gained your wings. Graveside services will be held this summer.
