Herman Ungefug

Herman Ungefug, 98, passed away on February 7, 2016. He was born on September 27, 1917 in Belfry MT to Carl and Katie Ungefug on the family farm. Herman was one of eight children. He was schooled in Belfry, then enlisted in the US Army June 27, 1941 and received an Honorable Discharge on October 31, 1945-4 years, 3 months, and 20 days, but who was counting? Herman was because he was an account at heart. He married Claris Lose during his enlistment and returned to Belfry to begin farming. To enhance his farming skills, he obtained agricultural and technical training through the G.I. bill. After retiring from farming they moved from the farm into the town of Belfry where he continued to work with his backhoe, dump truck and his coal business. They lived their final years in Billings. Herman is survived by their four daughters. Marie (Greg), Valerie (Jack), Rosalie (Sheldon), and Karla (Gary). Nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, son-in-law Jerry Behkne and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, Feb. 12th at St. John's Lutheran Church in Belfry followed by military honors at the Belfry cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St John's Lutheran Church at P.O. Box 201, Belfry MT 59008 or to the Belfry Senior Center at P.O. Box 15 in Belfry.
