Daniel Vander Jagt

Daniel Bert Vander Jagt passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 8, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was born July 12, 1943 to Bert and Arlee Vander Jagt. He was raised in Fairfield, MT, the youngest of 4 children. He graduated from Eastern Montana College, where he met and married Sue Arlene Thomas. He enlisted in the Army and served his country from 1966 to 1968. When he was discharged, they moved back to Billings, MT to start and raise their family. Dan worked for many years as a sales rep for Colgate Palmolive which took him to all parts of the state of Montana. Dad loved to bring his fishing pole; he would stop whenever he could to see what he could catch. He enjoyed talking and meeting new people. The travel got to be too much, so he started a new career with the Treasure Mountain Agency selling life insurance. Dan was very active with the Gideons, serving at the state level and participating in many distributions and conventions. He was an active member of his church, serving as an elder and Sunday school leader. After Sue's passing, Dan met and married Evelyn (Bernhardt) Jennings and gained 2 step-children. Dan never met a stranger, and he, invariably, would always run into someone he knew, no matter where he was. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman and loved spending time on the Big Horn River. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Sue. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Vander Jagt; children, Bobbi (Steve) Dolan, Danelle (Shannon) Rucker, Kaes (Sarah) Vander Jagt, Sarah (Kevin) Blatchford; step-children, Bill (Jung-Sook) Jennings, Lori Jennings; sisters, Arlene Voegele and Marilyn (Cliff) DeZort; and brother, Paul (Connie) Vander Jagt. Dan was blessed with 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 am., Monday, March 13, at Heights Baptist Church.
