Elizabeth Vanica

Liz broke through the bonds of earth on Friday, October 11, 2013 and was immediately enfolded into the arms of Jesus. She was born in Allentown, PA on July 30, 1926 to Cap¬tain Edward J. and Elizabeth Howard Quinn. After graduating from Allentown High School in 1943, she matriculated at the University of Pennsylvania in Phila¬delphia, PA. from which she graduated in 1946 with a degree in Industrial Psychology. She was inducted as a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority while at Penn. On July 6, 1943 she married Richard Dulany Love, Jr. and moved to Baltimore, MD where her husband was attending Law School at the University of Maryland. They had met in Cambridge, MA where Dick was then a V-12 student at Harvard University. Dick went to work for Monumental Life Insurance Com¬pany in 1948. In 1961, he was transferred to St. Jo¬seph, Mo. as district manager where the family, now having added four children, resided for a year. Trans¬ferred to Cumberland, MD in 1962, they added two more children and remained there for 12 years. The next stop was Pittsburgh, PA for two years, before re¬turning to Baltimore from 1976 to 1990. During this time and in various locations, Liz worked at the C. and P. Telephone Company in Baltimore in the Service Department, and was a teacher at St. Peter and Paul's School in Cumberland, MD. When they moved back to Baltimore, Liz went to work in the com¬puter department at Monumental Life home office for 15 years, during which time she tested new systems to be used throughout the Company. Dick retired in 1990 after 40 years with Monumental. With the children grown and on their own, Liz and Dick moved to Lakeland, FL where they enjoyed one year before Dick passed away in 1991. Liz stayed in Lakeland for 10 years during which time she was on the Board of Directors for the Sandpiper Golf and Country Club, the community in which she lived. She also was an editor of the Community News¬paper published monthly for the 1500 Sandpiper resi¬dents called the Newspiper. She was also very active in the Lakeland Little Theater Group, the Pied Piper Players. Bruce and Liz met by chance in 1999 and were married on June 23, 2001. Of course, this involved another move by Liz who came to Billings, MT. At that time, the only thing she knew about Billings, or Montana, for that matter, was that it existed on the map of the United States. Liz has six children and Bruce has seven and it was always a joke that if everybody got together at the same time, we'd have to hire a hall!! Liz has 8 grandchildren and Bruce has at least 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Liz is a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and an RSVP volunteer. Ever since her high school years, five of her dearest friends and Liz have kept in touch through a Round Robin letter. Though scattered by many miles, they remain as close as ever. At this time four of the six are still alive and kicking; however, we will never lose sight of our 'SISTERS' in heaven. Preceding her to Heaven were her parents and sister, Margaret Quinn Schlerf, as well as her first husband, Dick Love. Liz is survived by her husband, Bruce, six children: Mary Catherine Thackston (Tom) of Memphis, TN, Richard Dulany Love of Oak-land, CA, Edward Quinn Love of Thailand, Anne Love Blanchard (Steve) of Ventura, CA, Andrew Dominic Love (Lisa)of Ellicott City, MD and Amy Love Wilder of New Windsor, MD. Her grandchildren, also surviving, are Nicole Love, Michael Love, Veronica Love, Jessica Blanchard, Sean Blanchard, Sierra Love, Michael Wilder and Molly Wilder. Liz loved music of any kind (classical to jazz), reading, theater, Elderhostel, travel (the trips of a lifetime were to Ireland and Alaska) and travel with Bruce to Ohio, Yellow¬stone National Park, Glacier National Park, and many, many rides on trains (Bruce is a 'railroad aficionado') in Montana, Ohio, Maryland and Arizona. In 2006 we visited California and saw our children who live there. The piece de resistance, however, was the HOT AIR BALLOON ride we took in Santa Rosa!! I'm not certain if it was a Three Stooges or Laurel and Hardy routine it took to get Liz in and out of the balloon gondola, but whatever it was, it would have made a good comedy movie! In July of 2007, we celebrated Bruce's 80th birthday with all his children joining in. They, too, live all over the coun¬try—Sue in Pensacola, FL, Kay in Santa Rosa, CA, Joy in Detroit, Ml, Lee in Billings, Ray in Phoenix, Don in Billings and Amy in Great Falls. There are 13 grandchildren and many great grands. 'It's been so very nice to have this time together and have a laugh and song or two, but now it's time to say SO LONG' Service: Vigil Services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 18 ,2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Cremation will follow with interment to be at a later date and place.
