John Vogel

John passed peacefully from this life Friday June 7, 2019 at the age of 91. Born and raised on a farm in North Dakota, he left his home at age 21 and joined the Army, serving two years in the Korean War handling artillery. After being honorably discharged, he met and married Elizabeth (Betty) Zentner. They began their family and chose to raise their four children in Billings. John and Betty were married 48 years before her death in 2003. His favorite time was spent outdoors in his garden, and he will be remembered for the amazing flowers he produced. His most cherished photos were those of his great grandchildren. Although not able to recognize their sweet faces some days, they brightened his life on the days he could! We would like to extend our deepest thanks to all involved in dad's medical care. Our family will be forever grateful to the staff at Lasting Legacy Assisted Living for the love and care shown to dad. The Billings VA Clinic was exemplary in seeing to his every medical need, and for that we say thank you. Preceded in death by wife Betty, his parents Jacob and Rose, and his sister Rose Virginia. Dad leaves behind his dear friend and companion of 15 years, Angie Haupt, his siblings Annamary, Robert, Katherine, Betty, Pete, Cecilia and Lorenz. He was father to, and is survived by Keith (Kathy), Todd (Cindy), Jim (Peggy), Cindy, and Jackie (Gregg). Proud grandpa to Shana, Lauren, Drew, Jessie, Megan, and great grandpa to Zoey, Declan and Parker. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Although we knew the end was near, it leaves us with feelings we were unprepared for. Dad, now that you're in a better place, we hope you never miss a wrestling match or any of your westerns.
