Obituary
Elizabeth Macfarland Webber, age 80, of Billings, MT (formerly of Newark, DE), passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017. Born in Morristown, NJ on October 27, 1936, Libby was a daughter of the late Charles Steadman Macfarland and Muriel Lodge Macfarland. A graduate of Westfield High School (NJ) in 1954 and the University of Delaware (Bachelor's degree 1958 in English and French, and a Master's degree 1965 in English), Libby taught English and French at local high schools (Conrad, Glasgow, Mount Pleasant, and A.I. DuPont) and at Delaware Technical Community College through 2001. Libby moved to Billings, MT in 2005 to be near her grandchildren and volunteered at the visitor's center for the Billings Chamber of Commerce and the library at West High School. Libby is survived by her sister, Mary Macfarland Manners (Robert) of Burlington, NC; children, Caroline Whitesides (Dietrich) of Centennial, CO, Andrew Webber of Attleboro, MA, and Thomas Webber (Kim) of Billings, MT; and her four grandchildren, Carter, William, Emma and Derek. Libby had a lifelong passion for traveling, especially to France and around the western United States. Libby's European travels frequently included her friends, children and grandchildren to share her love of European sights and history. Libby also adored the scenery of the American west as she traveled around Montana, Wyoming and Colorado, and spent a summer working at Yellowstone National Park. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and especially enjoyed the cacophony of her high-spirited grandchildren during family events. She will be truly missed. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on May 19, 2017 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Billings, MT. In lieu of flowers, contributions in your local symphony are encouraged.

Caroline, Andy and Tom (Tommy is what we called you in North Star). I remember you Mom as a very nice and fun person. She would always smile when I showed up at your door for one reason or another. The smile in Lib's picture makes me think of her laughter at NHS faculty gatherings or when the DECA folks got together with wives included. Caroline, Andy, and Lyn was right - Tommy, 'tho I now see its Tom - you now know there is an empty space in your hearts, and all I can say is that remembering laughter together with Mom, and the time that she ... will spread a frame of joy around that hole, some days to the extent that you'll almost forget its there. You were lucky to be her kids - she was a class person.

Libby was a college friend. We reconnected after many years and found that we both liked to travel. We ventured to England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, the Columbia River Gorge, Alaska and the Yukon and most recently Spain, Portugal and France. On the France trip to Nice we took a train trip into the mountains with some local people aboard. Libby chatted very avidly with a French native in their language. I understood very little but the woman praised Libby for her accent and ability to speak the language of her land. According to Libby it had been years since she had spoken any French. What an amazing complement that must have been! I have yet to travel again. I know I will miss Her. Barbara Jenkinson Owens
