Daniel Williams

Daniel “Ed” Williams passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 16, 2015. Ed was born in Butte, Montana, on August 13, 1929 to Julia Ready Driscoll and Daniel Edward Williams. Ed was the oldest of three children and the role fit him well. He was raised with a very strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. He was a wonderful protector and mentor. His younger years were spent as a true “Butte America” native with a true love of the outdoors; boating, fishing, and riding his motor cycle. Ed graduated from Butte High and went on to complete a handful of trade courses. He began a career with the Great Northern Railroad at age 19. He retired from BNSF Railroad after over 40 years of service. He loved working with his hands and especially enjoyed working on cars. In his spare time he bought, fixed up and sold over 50 automobiles by the age of 30. Ed met his wife Laura “Gertie” Glennon through his bowling league and they were married May 7, 1960. In 1965 they moved to Billings where they raised their family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Gary Williams, brother Donald “Rocky”, father and mother-in-law Leo and Laura Glennon, and his sisters-in-law Sister Alice Mary and Joyce Glennon. Ed is survived by his sister Joan Claire Cavanaugh as well as his children and their spouses; Dan (Lisa) Williams, Barb (Bill) McNeely, Linda (Dwayne) Chilton, Sandy Williams, Andy (Elna) Thomas, and Daughter-in-law Sheryl Wutzke. Ed's grandchildren include; Jeremy, Faith, Hope, and Grace Williams, Jake, Sammy, Mike, and Ryan McNeely, Billy and Beau Chilton, Sarah Wutzke, Amanda Wiederien, Alycyn Tormaschy, and Alexis Buss. Memorial mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 20, at St. Patrick Co-Cathedral. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
