Rudolph Williams

Rudy Williams, 83, of Billings, passed away August 29, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born September 14, 1930 in Lake Butler, FL, to Louis and Ether (Stafford) Williams. Rudy was the 6th of 9 children. He married Margaret (Peggy) Romee in 1951 and they had 2 children, Catherine and Steven. Rudy joined the Navy in 1948 and retired after 20 years in 1969. During his time with the Navy he served on surface craft , including a hospital ship, aircraft carrier, and destroyers. He was in the submarine service from 1962-1969 and served on the USS Balao (the movie “Operation Petticoat” was filmed on this ship), USS Loggerhead, USS Quillback, USS Mackerel, USS Rasher, and the USS Catfish. Rudy served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and received many commendations including a Bronze Star. After retiring from the Navy, Rudy went to work for the Montana Power Company. He worked in Billings, Mystic Lake and Colstrip. He retired after 20 years in 1990. Rudy enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and working in his yard. He enjoyed spending time with his family (especially his grandson, Brian, who spent a lot of time with him). Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Doris, Alice, Lavenia, Caroline; brothers Clarence and Johnny; and his son Steven. Rudy is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Williams, daughter Cathy (Norm) Evans, granddaughter Amy (James) Cambron, grandson James “Brian” Evans, and great granddaughter Brenna Townsend, brother L.E.Williams, sister Lois Armstrong, and many nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank Dr. Cobb, Dr. Kahn, Dr. Shaub and the staff of Saint Vincent Healthcare and RiverStone Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion given to Rudy and to our entire family. Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 15 at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at the Laurel Cemetery with military honors. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
