Monte Boston

Monte Louis Boston, 67, died February 16, 2019 in Billings MT. He was born March 12, 1951 in Colorado Springs to Evelyn “Jean” (Clowe) Boston and Melvin Boston. Early on, they moved to Missoula MT where he was raised with his 4 sisters. He attended Hellgate High and was very active in athletics there. He excelled in basketball, football, baseball, golf and was active in choir, band, and drama as well. As a talented football player, he played for Montana State University Bobcats on scholarship 1969-1972. He was a VERY proud Bobcat. Monte spent 30+ years as a guidance counselor and school administrator in Hardin and Thompson Falls MT; Rawlins and Gillette WY; Barrow, Delta Junction, and Eagle River AK. He loved working with students and his greater joy was coaching football, basketball, and golf. He was also a Driver's Ed teacher, which is surprising if you'd ever ridden with him. Spending time in the Philippines as a high school exchange student, sparked a love to travel near and far; he made several overseas trips. He was well known as a die-hard road warrior-driving 2000 miles in a weekend was not a stretch for him. All knew never to ‘expect' him, rather he'd just show up at the door when he arrived; he was very unpredictable. He would stop to see every possible monument or site of interest; time was not a limiting factor for him. Golfing, camping, fishing, and road tripping were his passions. He bent over backwards to share this love with all who took him up on an offer. In true MOBO style, there was always an ‘adventure' (or misadventure) to be had on these trips: getting stuck, boats not starting at sea, motorhome parked on the beach as high tide came in, flat tires, lures to the face, unhitched trailers going down the road, etc. Ya'll know! Remember-duck tape and gorilla glue fix everything. His kind, generous, and forgiving spirit along with being the gregarious, obnoxious, funny guy are what will be remembered most. He was truly, a 1 of a kind Uncle Buck to many. His precious last years were spent doing what he loved most---attending to his grandkids. Individual dates were often and unplanned; spontaneous carols played on the piano, hours playing board games and cards, reading books, wrestling, and ‘rhyme time', movies and ice cream outings. Birthdays and Christmas gifts were often overlooked, but Valentine's Day was one not missed. His last week included both Grandkid time and Valentine gifts, for that we are eternally grateful. Monte was preceded in death by both parents, Jean and Melvin Boston, nieces Amy Winters and Rachel Winters. He is survived by 2 daughters Brooke Gondara (Robbie) of New Mexico, and Aubrey May (JD) of Billings; grandchildren Zoe Reagan, Destinee Gondara, Chase May, Liz May, Uriel May, Emma May, Lucy May, Jude May, and Bridget May; sisters Linda Winters (Jack) of Idaho, Sharon Franklin (Rich) of Washington, Cindy Kadlec (Kim) of Texas, and Jeri Boston of Washington; nieces and nephews Jacky Winters, Donna Winters, Darek Franklin, Amy Rhoads, Karla Laing, Kelli Hernandez, and Quinton Boston. Celebration of life at Holland Lake, MT on July 15,2019. Barbeque and scattering of ashes beginning at 12:00 noon at the day use area. All are welcome.
