Keri Whiteman

Keri Mardell Whiteman of Pryor, MT left for the other side camp on January 21, 2020. Her Indian name, Akbaalaashdeesh (Kind to Others) a name adopted from her great grandmother Elizabeth Yellowtail. She was born on October 16, 1982 to Edward Jr. and Carol Whiteman and was given to Raymond and Patsy Stands Over Bull the Crow way. She was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Whistling Water Clan. She was a woman of prayer and enjoyed attending the Pentecostal, Catholic and Baptist Churches. She attended Pryor Head Start, St. Charles, Pryor Elementary and Plenty Coups High School. She was a natural athlete and excelled in cross country, volleyball, cheer leading and basketball. She was a very good ball handler in basketball. She lived up to her Crow name throughout her life and enjoyed being around her family. She loved both sets of parents as well as all of her family and paid visits to them often; she was a homemaker during her visits through cooking and cleaning. She was an aunty to all and took pride in her nieces, nephews and grandchildren, having her own special rhythm and tune to sing as she would hold and play with each baby. She was especially proud of naming her nephew Kevion's middle name “Elyab”, a name she retrieved from the Bible. She loved to laugh, was helpful and a joy to be around. She had many friends, Annie Brown, and two she held a special bond with were Rose Beartusk and Seja Plain Bull. She was also very close to her cousins, Joelle, Brenda, Laranda, Daphne, Jonalea, and Jeanne. She is survived by her godson Tobyn Crooked Arm, brothers Channis (Dr. Gerlinda) Whiteman, Edward “Posey” (Kari) Whiteman III, Ian (Kayleigh) White, Conrad (Marla) Stands; her sisters, Quindy (Everett) Tallwhiteman and Claura Whiteman, Raylene (Jonathon) Pretty On Top, Roberta (Alfred) Walks, Dora (Dewyane) Costa, Inez House, Mary Wall and Belle Laverdure, Alma Costa and Marshea Little Light. Her nephews Kevion Ladson, Quade Tallwhiteman, Jeremy Keo and children, Gerard, Abraham, Elias and David Laverdure, Bruce, Austin and Jerome Big Hail, Rudy Kelly, Dante Stands, Reiny and Dion Shane. Her nieces Charine (Ashton) Old Elk, Chantel, Chandra Whiteman, Coral, Char Old Bull, and Jorah, Mercedee, Sarcie, Jaelynn and Miracle Shane, Nora Walks, Kiesha, Melissa and Josie Kelly. Grandchildren Cailyn, Cayton White, Cameila and Cashton Old Elk, and Greyleigh. Grandmothers Regina Goes Ahead and Agnes Pretty Weasel, Adam and Nellie Sings In the Timber. Aunts Ada Bends, Mama Valeen, Carol, Jolene and Geneva Whiteman, Josephine and Almira Wall, Carla, Caroline Whiteman, Barbara Comes Up and Mary Lou (Heywood) Big Day. Uncles Leonard (Regina), Arnie (Debby), Daryl (Carletta), Byron (Rosey) Bends, Channis (Norma) Whiteman, Calvin Herrera, Eugene Red Star and Bruce White Sr. Her extended family include DeCrane, Turns Plenty, Goes Ahead, Thomas, Falls Down, Bear Cloud, Williamson,Wall, Morrison, Big Lake, Round Face, Singer, Black Hawk, Bear Ground, Takes Horse, Wilson, Horn, Plain Feather, Old Horn, the family of Frank “Pollick” Plain Bull, Bullchief, Hill, Bends Yellowtail, Lion Shows, Duchein, Takes Gun, Hogan, Old Coyote, One Goose, Plays, Takes Enemy, Plentyhoops, Birdinground, Alice Mae Laforge Family, Friday, Fredericks, Venne, Old Bear, Iron, and Rock Above. Our family is large if we have forgotten anyone please forgive us. Keri is preceded in death by grandparents Edward Sr. and Josephine (Decrane) Whiteman, Robert and Clara (Hill) Bends, James and Sara (Hawk) White, and Jacob and Lena Stands. Her parents Edward Jr. and Carol (Bends) Whiteman and adopted parents Raymond and Patsy Stands. Brothers Ray Scott Stands and Dione Bellrock. Sisters Cecelia and Verlynn Stands, and Tana (Jason) Shane. Aunt Velma (Cookie) Bellrock. Uncles Norman Whiteman and Dale Kills Pretty Enemy. Niece Nikki Dillion. A special thank you to St. Vincent's emergency room and intensive care unit staff for taking care of our beloved Keri. Father Randolph will be officiating services for the Rosary on Friday, January 24 and the funeral on Saturday, January 25, 2020 both at St. Charles Parrish in Pryor, MT.
