Nicholas Brackett
November 20, 1940 - September 25, 2014
Obituary
He was a soldier. He is a soldier. He will always be a soldier. On Thursday, September 25, 2014, Nicholas Buckner Brackett, affectionately known as Nick or Burst, went to his final resting place. Born in Yakima, Washington on November 19, 1940 to Cecil F.D. Brackett and Catherine P. Gilman Brackett, Nick was an only child. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Catherine, and grandparents, Ida and Elijah. During his life, Nick worked as a photographer, security guard, postal worker, and proudly as a member of the U.S. Army. Nick always said that, “it does not take blood to make a family”, and he lived true to that statement. He is survived by too many important people to name, all of whom he loved and cared deeply for. He was a true patriot, amazing father, valued friend, respected leader, trusted confidant, and partner-in-mischief. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. A viewing will be held at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings, Montana on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 10:00am-8:00pm, with the family present for visitation from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 10:00am at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings, Montana, with burial to follow in Yellowstone National Cemetery in Laurel, Montana. A memorial reception to celebrate Nick's life will be held at the America Legion at 1540 Broadwater, Billings, MT 59102 from 1:00pm-4:00pm. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to either the Patriot Guard Riders of Montana C/O Wes Lambert 737 South Billings Blvd. #13, Billings, MT 59101 (non-tax deductible) or the Wounded Warriors Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
