Darrell Lefthand

Our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend was called home by our Heavenly Father on June 23, 2020. Darrell Duane Lefthand, age 44, was known as “Baa iihkuumaat baalaaxxish” (Makes a joyful noise unto the Lord) name given to him by Rev.Larry LittleOwl. Darrell was a member of the Big Lodge clan and child of the Big Lodge Clan. He is a descendant of Chief Crazyhead, the only Crow who fought the whiteman, Chief Longhair, Chief Pretty Eagle, Subchief Magpie Man, Curley, (Whitemanrunshim). Darrell was born in Billings, Montana to Eymard Lefthand and Jacquelyn Stewart on March 27, 1976. He was raised in Pryor, Montana by his grandmother Anna Jean Lefthand. Darrell received his education at Pryor Public School, and Plenty Coups High School in 1994. Darrell's career included fire fighting, detailing cars, coaching basketball and landscaping. Darrell married Carlotta Monroy-Ware in 1996 and from that union they had three children Darrelyn, Darnell, and Famous. They made their home in Pryor. Later, in 2003, Darrell met Amy Hanson, and from that union they had two children Trinity and Darrell “DJ” Lefthand. Most recently he married the love of his life Melanie Decrane whom he was preceded in death by. Darrell became a member of the Arrow Creek Christian Church in Pryor. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. Always helping others, he loved building sweat, coaching others, and being a father. Darrell enjoyed taking part in his cultural ways which included; sweat lodge,throwing arrows in which he became a champion and High Point Man multiple times, he named his son “Famous Arrows” for his accomplishments and accolades in that activity. He was a very fluent Crow speaker, and learned Plains Indian Sign Language at a very early age. Darrell was a humble soul, never one to brag about himself or his children. He had a heart of gold and truly believed God was the one to credit for everything. He supported Darrelyn, Darnell and Famous when they participated in athletics at Hardin High School. He was an avid Plenty Coups Warrior, Hardin Bulldogs, and Rocky Mountain College fan. He always looked for ways to help improve his children's basketball abilities because he knew they had the ability to play at a higher level. He was most proud of helping create his three all staters Darrelyn, Darnell, and Famous. He always said Trinity and DJ could make it five if they worked hard. He was so proud of Darrelyn receiving her bachelor's degree at Rocky Mountain College. He was proud of the daddy Darnell was becoming, Famous for all his hard work and receiving his basketball scholarship to Rocky Mountain College, Trinity, for playing sports. He said one day she was going to be a “BEAST”; DJ, for following his big brothers footsteps and always being coachable. Darrell was proud of his five children and loved them dearly. Darrell was preceded in death by his brothers, Darnell Lefthand, Leland Driftwood; his grandmothers Anna Lefthand, Rose Marie Black Hawk; grandfathers, Jackson Stewart, and Tyler Lefthand. Survivors include his parents Eymard (Sarah) Lefthand, Jacquelyn Stewart. Children: Daughters: Darrelyn Lefthand (Jacie Hogan),Trinity Lefthand; Sons: Darnell (Aubrey) Lefthand, Famous Lefthand, and Darrell “DJ” Lefthand, Andre DeCrane, Marty and Henry Driftwood. His one and only granddaughter whom he loved so dearly Capri Lefthand. Uncles - Dennis Bastien, Dwight (Marlene), Lemuel Stewart, Kenneth (Barbara) Spotted, Winfield Maryanne) Russell. Aunts:Anda (Henry) Pretty On Top. Grandparents Ronnie and Rosalind Yellowmule. Linda and Larry Little Owl, Wilma and Lawrence Stands. Siblings: sisters: Lori Stewart, Sarah Stewart (Stanley Rides Horse), Tiara; brothers: Dana (Joen) Wilson, Darwin Lefthand, Richard (Cleone) Lefthand, Sponge Sees The Ground, Clarent Stewart, Leanord Gardner. Extended families: Paternal side: Lefthand, Blood Man, Blain, Bull Tail, Yarlott, Plenty Hawk,Pretty On Top, Alden, Falls Down, Back Bone, Gets Down, Old Bear, Whiteman family, Stands Overbull, Dust, Red Star, Roods, Rondeaux, Bad Bear, Caplett, Horse, Hunts The Arrow, and Passes. Maternal side: Blackhawk, Stewart, Bigman, Dawes, Half, Otter, Brass, Yellowmule, White Dirt, Seminole, Littlewhiteman, Plain Feather. Please accept our apology if we have missed you as our family is large, our loss was beyond tragic and so sudden. The Lefthand/Stewart family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and monetary gifts. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 27, 2020 at 11am at Plenty Coups High School Football Field.
