Obituary
Barbara Peterson was born in Havre, Montana to George and Jane (Gwynn) Jumper on August 20, 1934. She passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on August 28, 2020 at the age of 86. Barbara graduated from Shelby High School in 1952. She attended Northern Montana College in Havre, Montana where she received her teaching certificate in 1954. In 1962, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Western Montana College in Dillon, Montana. While teaching in Sidney, she was introduced to her future husband, Robert Peterson, by Bob's sister, Shirley Boles. They married on December 28, 1968 and settled on a farm near Lindsay, Montana. Barbara dedicated her life to her faith, teaching, and music. Her teaching career spanned 40 years, including many years spent teaching multiple grades at the two room schoolhouse in Lindsay. Barbara was a gifted musician and served as the organist for Deer Creek Lutheran Church. Her deep faith and enthusiasm for life, even after suffering a stroke in 2005, touched the lives of many people. Barbara is survived by her children, Mark Golden (Chris) of Chillicothe, Illinois; Kim Mangels (Dave) of Billings, Montana and Brenda Beverly (Ron) of Olympia, Washington. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dawson and Zach Mangels and Adrienne, Kristen, and Charlie Beverly as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her sister BettyAnn Cummings, and her brother Gwynn Jumper. The family wishes to thank the staff of Morningstar Assisted Living and Stillwater Hospice for the care Barbara received during the last few months of her life. A funeral service for Barbara will be held on Saturday, September 5 at 2 pm at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Billings, Montana. Interment will be Tuesday, September 8 at 1 pm at the Dawson County Cemetery in Glendive, Montana.

Brenda and all...your mother was so lovely! We enjoyed getting to know her in Richey when you were in school. She was gracious, kind and a great teacher...so much like Bettyann, my favorite elementary teacher! Although our shared faith causes us to rejoice in her Homegoing we will pray for you as you miss her. Sending our love.

To the family of Barbara Peterson. I was so sorry to read in the Billings Gazette that Barbara passed away. May she rest in peace. My now deceased husband,Ray, and I admired her courage and friendship while we were residents at Morningstar also. She and Bob were our neighbors. I enjoyed the cheerful notes she sent me when I moved to Big Timber to be near my son. I regret that I didn't get back to visit her and other friends there but I do not drive on I-90 anymore. I am so thankful for the privilege I had working with Barb. She always found a way to share her wonderful laughter when the going was good and when it wasn't so good. A beautiful person.
