Obituary

Darlene Ann Backbone, 70, of Crow Agency, passed away Thursday,
October 1st, 2020, in the Billings Clinic Hospital.

“Iische baaxpaash” (Sacred Hands) was born on May 18th, 1950 in
Crow Agency, a daughter of Frank Backbone, Sr. and Pearl Deernose
Backbone. She was a child of the Greasy Mouth clan and a member of the
Big Lodge clan, a lifetime member of the Crow Community Baptist Church
where she was rebaptized in 2012.

Darlene was raised in the Crow Agency area and attended school in
Flandreau, SD. graduating in 1969. Darlene obtained her Certificate of
Drivers License (CDL) in Juneau, AK. in 1997. After receiving her CDL, she
worked for the Crow Tribe Head Start program as a bus driver for 10 years.
During this time she grew quite fond of many of the children that she
transported to and from home to the Head Start center, calling her bus
driver.

Darlene married Donnie Wayne LaForge, Sr. in 1970 in Sheridan,
Wy. and was later divorced. In this union 4 children were born, Donnie W.,
Jr., Donita, Pearl, and Stephan LaForge.

Darlene was proceeded in death by her parents, sons Donnie W. &
Stephan P. LaForge. Daughter Donita M. LaForge. Grandson Donnie S.
LaForge. Brothers Frank Backbone, Jr. & Alonzo Ten Bear. Sisters:
Francine Camden and Noreen Backbone.

Survivors include her daughter Pearl (Wayne Onion) LaForge.
Brothers Shawn (Dyann), Harold (Debbie) Backbone and Marlon (Debbie)
Passes. Sisters: Arlene (Robert) Fitch, Nadine (Dean) Dawes, Donna, and
Calley Backbone, Ardith (Clifford) Birdinground, Julia Wolfe, Lavina
Passes, Katherine (Benito) Morrison, Patricia Maxwell, and Elaine Stops;
Adopted sister: Berdina (Bill) Stops. Grandchildren: Carl LaForge from
North Dakota, Jerilyn Limpy, LaShawnda LaForge, Larnita & Jeran Stewart
along with numerous nieces and nephews.
