Gary Good Luck

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me” Philippians 4:13 Our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Gary Joel Good Luck went home to be with the Lord on October 17th, 2020. Gary Joel was born on May 21, 1984 to Clinton and Carol (Whiteman) Good Luck in Crow Agency, Montana. He was a member of the Greasy Mouth clan and a child of the Ties the Bundle clan. As a child he was given the Indian name “Akbaakalatcheesh” (Believer) by his great uncle, the late Sylvester “Cardy” Goes Ahead. He was later renamed “Iichiilikaash'balaxish” (Singing Elk) by his uncle, the late Carl Venne. He was baptized by the late Reverend Charles Robinson at the St. Charles Catholic Mission in Pryor, MT. His Godparents were Dorothy Spotted Bear and the late Marvin “Cottontail” Stewart. He attended the Pryor Headstart as a preschooler and the St. Charles Mission Catholic school for eight years. Gary attended Plenty Coups High School and later Lame Deer High School as a sophomore and Junior up until his car accident on December 1, 2001. He was a very family oriented person and had a love for all babies in the family. He was a meticulous and sharp dresser taking care in his appearance. He was goal oriented and set his sights high for academics and sports. Earning straight A's through high school, he was a member of the National English Honor Society. While in junior high and as a freshman, Gary won area wide poetry essay contests. In junior high and high school, Gary attended the INMED program at UND, Grand Forks, ND and the MAPS program at the Montana State University in Bozeman, MT Gary's passion in his short life was basketball, his dad Clinton wanted him to be a team roper but at every roping Gary would find a basketball goal and played basketball. His sophomore year he scored 56 points for Plenty Coup JV and scored 56 points again for Lame Deer JV against Lodge Grass. Eventually as a sophomore he played varsity for the Lame Deer Morning Stars and made All Conference for the Southern Class B Division. In 1999 as a freshman and in 2000 as a sophomore Gary Joel was on the State Championship Cross Country team for the Plenty Coup High School. In 2001 he was the only male Cross Country team member for the Lame Deer Morning Stars. Gary Joel was an athlete and played in many basketball tournaments winning all stars and MVP's. Gary is predeceased by his father; grandparents: Edward Posey and Josephine (DeCrane) Whiteman, Sr., Louis and Alice (Iron) Good Luck, Sr.; adopted parents: James & Velma Bell Rock, Sr. aunts: Aneda Rosalind Hill, Andrea Good Luck; uncles; Norman and Edward Whiteman, Jr., and Gary, Louie and Johnny Good Luck; cousins: Lona Fritzler, Dione Bell Rock, Keri Whiteman; niece: Nikki Dillon. He is survived by his mother Carol; siblings: Robyn (Vance) Crooked Arm, Kolan, Raven and Roslyn “Fozzy” Good Luck; nieces and nephews: Chezney, Brody Tobyn, Lovae, and Valeena; aunts: Joyce Good Luck, Lavonne Spotted Horse, Angela (Hartford) Bear Claw, Verly (Gabe) Morgan, Missy (Randy) Falls Down, Valeen Plain Feather, and Jolene Kills Pretty Enemy; uncles: Channis (Norma) Whiteman, Terrance (Gwen) Covers Up, Darren & Elvin (Cassie) Fritzler; adopted brothers he grew up with: Print Scott Spotted Bear, Jr., Jordan & Jeran Whiteman, Jason Killsprettyenemy, Posey Whiteman, Chris Dillon, James Bell Rock, Jr. and Xavier Stewart; adopted sister: Rita Bell Rock; God-daughter: Charmagne Dillon-Tsosie; grandparents: Agnes (Larry) Pretty Weasel, Regina Goes Ahead, Nellie Singer, Adam (Bernice) Singer; adopted parents: Clinton & Corliss Iron; and adopted spiritual father and uncle, Minister Arthur Beale. He is survived by his extended family including the Whiteman, DeCrane, Goes Ahead, Turns Plenty, Old Horn, Morrison, Hugs, Venne, Williamson, late Julia Not Afraid Family, Iron, Brass, Otter Stays in the Water, Star-Black Hawk, Yellowmule, Leider, Walks Over Ice, Spotted, Red Wolf, Hunts the Arrow, Good Luck, Bad Horse-Covers Up, Little Owl, Bull Weasel and Bright Wings families. We apologize if we have forgotten anyone in our time of grief. The family would like to thank the staff at the Awe Kualawaache Care Center and the ICU staff at St. Vincent's Hospital. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Dahl Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
