Lucille Daugherty

Lucille Messer Daugherty, 87, went to be with our Lord Jesus, Friday December 4, 2020. Lucille was born October 19, 1933, in Bridger, MT to Phillip and Elizabeth (Zenter) Messer. She grew up on a farm outside of Bridger with her nine brothers and sisters. Lucille had fond memories of when she attended a one room schoolhouse and all of the adventures of growing up in the country. Her brothers supplied her with all kinds of entertainment. One of their favorite pranks was to tie dead snakes to the doors of the outhouse. Lucille graduated from Bridger High School. On November 8, 1952, Lucille was united in marriage to Jim Daugherty. As they raised their family, there were many camping, hunting, and fishing trips. On one trip, to Daily Lake in Paradise Valley the family caught over 50 perch. They were filleted in the hotel bathtub and put on ice and later canned. The family lived in Kansas City, MO, Casper, WY, Albuquerque, NM, and Billings, MT. Lucille worked as a CNA in hospitals in various places they lived including the Billings Clinic. Her husband Jim died in 1995. She met her companion and soul mate, Ray Rumfelt, 3 years later at a dance in Acton, MT. They both loved to dance and attended many polka fests with their many friends. During the summer months they lived in Billings, wintering in Yuma, AZ until Ray's death in 2017. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; six brothers: John, Matt, Jake, Paul, Edwin, and Ervin; three sisters: Barbara Dietz, Margaret Horning, and Catherine Wirtz; her son Ben Daugherty (11-25-2018) and her soul mate Ray. She leaves behind her kids: Denise (Bill) West, Mark (Wendy) Daugherty, Chris (Brenda) Daugherty; grandkids, great grandkids, other family members and many friends. All of us will miss her so very much! Memorial Mass will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM, followed by Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.
