Donna St. Pierre

Donna D. St. Pierre (Denny) “Sitting With All the Horses” passed away peacefully after her battle with coronavirus on December 19, 2020 at St. Vincent's Hospital at the age of 58. She was born on April 4, 1962 in Lodge Grass, Montana. Donna grew up on the Rocky Boy and Crow Indian reservations. She spent a large chunk of her childhood walking through the hills of Parker School and under the care of her grandmother, Florence. The Standing Rock family would continue their care of Donna while she was young, and would remain her close family into her adult life. She spent a large part of the beginning of her adulthood fighting fires as a volunteer. While her children were young, her innate ability to be a caregiver moved her to begin her work as a CNA. From there, she worked as a dispatcher for the Tribe and BIA. During summers, she'd work as a flagger for road construction. She somehow always found a way to help through her jobs. Our mother loved dressing western and attending rodeos, basketball games, and powwows – always bringing her powwow chair, a pair of boots, and a couple pairs of Wranglers everywhere she went. She was a woman of many talents that included beadwork, helping her kids with their creative projects where she would make parts for them by hand, and having such a big sense of humor – everywhere she went she was always laughing and making everyone else laugh too. Our mom's focus during the last decade has been her ability to be an amazing grandmother and be as present as she could be for her grandchildren and many others she has met along the way. Donna took pride in always having a clean home, being able to cook wonderful meals, the lives of her grown- up children, and the small and large beginnings of her grandchildren's lives. Her greatest accomplishment will always be in the grandmother she became and for how big her heart was in lending a hand and including those she crossed paths with in life. Predeceased by her father, George in 2009; granddaughter, Tylilian in 2013; and mother, Elma in 2020, Donna is survived by her husband – Roger, Jr; her children - Denene, Rian, Voyd, and Shelbe (Jared); her grandchildren - Sirayla, Kaelynn, Steven, Roman, Wyatt, and Gloria; her siblings - Georgina, Joy (Mike), Jason (Elaine), Todd (Verna), and Jennifer. She will be missed by many other relatives and friends. We will be carrying out our mother's wishes in a small, private setting with immediate family. We plan on having a feast to honor our mother's life in the spring time with locations and dates to be given out in the future. The reality of Covid - 19 touches us in more ways than one and we want to make sure we can do our part in keeping our Elders safe. The St. Pierre family would like to thank Dahl's funeral home for their care of our mother, the many sincere condolences from various people, and would like to leave others with the humbling message to forgive often and love hard and to encourage everyone to remember their family and friends struggling with addiction and mental illness. We are all humans who need help and encouragement sometimes.
