Heather Iron

Heather Helen Iron (41) of God's Country Mighty Few joined her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, December 30th. Heather was born to Clinton and Corliss Iron on March 26 1979, in Billings, MT. She and her sister June were the second set of twins in her family. Her paternal grandmothers gave her the Apsaalooke name of her great-grandmother Helen Crooked Arm Iron “Ichikicheesh”. Heather was also affectionately known as Helen. She was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Greasy Mouth Clan. Heather was adopted by her aunt Connie Little Light (RIP), Robert and Carol Howe, Iva Shane, Jennifer Turns Plenty, Barbara Stewart, Frances Knows His Gun, Carla Crooked Arm, Betty LaForge, and Jim Felix. Heather was raised in Indian Country, wherever her father's career placed them. She was a Wyola Wildcat, Lodge Grass Indian, Pretty Eagle Eagle, Hardin Bulldog, St. Charles Saint, St. Labre Brave, Artesia NM Bulldog, and resided in Fort Hall ID, Reno NV, Fort Washakie, Wyo, and Browning Mt. She graduated from St. Labre Indian School in 1998. She loved sports and enjoyed basketball, cross country, golf, and her track and field event shot put. She also participated in Montana Special Olympics, and received a gold medal for basketball. Her natural talents enabled her to do well with minimum practice. Heather also attended Little Big Horn College. Heather was an artist and very skilled in drawing and beading. Her passion was beading. She had precision and knew her colors, producing quality pieces, always smooth, clean, and neat, even the back of the pieces. When she examined beadwork she would turn it over to see how the back was. She once told her nieces they need practice. Heather loved the Lord. She loved church. She loved Pentecostal revivals even as a small child. She and her sisters were always excited to go to the "hallelujah churches". She was a member of El Shaddai Worship and attended faithfully. She was a faithful giver and tither. She didn't miss a tithe until her last August percap. She also wanted to bless other ministers and did so. Helen was blessed with a very loving heart, outgoing, friendly, kind, and generous, almost always saw the good, and had the biggest smile. She was a good friend to all and was always welcoming. She loved her nieces and nephews as her own. She was known as "Auntie Pillow" and grew into, "Kaala Pillow". She was also known as Heather Lee, Heddo, Scissors, Heather Roo Roo, and recently Desperado. She was blessed with many friends but her best friend was Boomer, her cousin brother. Also another special friend was Rose Morrison. Throughout her life, Helen exuded the optimism of a child and the love as well due to the life changing effect of spinal meningitis when she was 8 months old. The damage to her brain from a fever resulted in a seizure disorder. She also became developmentally delayed, which brought limitations in spite of her talents and natural abilities. Regardless, she viewed the world in rose tinted glasses. She is survived by her parents, her adopted parents, her siblings; Clinton Jr., (Clarinda), Curtis (Nina) Iron, Tyler (Lisa) Left Hand, Gilbert Left Hand Jr., June (Les) Hogan Jr., LeTonne (Alvin) Yarlott Jr., Caroline (Jordan) Litttlewhirlwind. Heather was preceded in death by her adopted mother, Connie Little Light, niece Kurtlyn Iron, grandmothers Nathelle Jefferson, Sylvia Iron Moss, Iola Iron, Rita, Harriet, Emma and Aurelia Beads Don't Mix. Her brothers CJ, Quinny, and Albert Iron, Vincent Davies, Gibby and Nathaniel Left Hand, BJ Backbone, Gary Joel Good Luck, Byron, Homer and Robin Little Light, her sisters Tionna Rowland, Ashley Doyle. Heather's extended family include Iron, Crooked Arm, Blanket Bull, Young Swallow, Big Hair, Leider, Birdinground, Old Elk, Springfield, Red Star, Door, Half, Little Light, Brown, Jefferson, Rock Above. Viewing for Heather will be Monday January 4th, 4pm to 8pm, Tuesday January 5th 1pm to 8pm. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Hardin, Montana Wednesday January 6th 1pm. Dahl Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
