Robert Heck

Robert “Bob” Douglas Heck died on January 13, 2021 in Billings, Montana, at the age of 81. He was born on October 8, 1939 in Gettysburg, South Dakota to Arnold and Lois (0'Hagen) Heck. He graduated from the Bison High School in 1958. He enlisted in the US Navy, SeaBees Division, on December 9, 1958 as a construction apprentice. On January 5, 1960 he married Carol Schell. The Zama Navy Base in Japan is where Bob was stationed. He served for four years, and upon his discharge they settled in Bison, SD. Together they raised 4 daughters. Bob enjoyed trap shooting, western movies, working as mechanic, and playing cards. He was a member of the Roger-Smith American Legion Post #255. When the Legion Building was first established it was a movie hall on Thursday and Sunday nights. Robert served as the projection operator. As an active member of the American Legion he participated in many community events. Bob worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years and later as a bus driver for the Bison School District. After retirement, he moved to Montana to be closer to his daughters settling in Columbus, MT. Robert is survived by his daughters Sheila Cain of Dickenson ND, Denise Jordan of Billings, MT, Michelle (Steve) Pearson of Plano, TX, and Wanda (Keath) Smith of Shepherd, MT; seventeen grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lois Heck, and brother, Richard Heck. Robert will be buried at 1:00 p.m. on January 20, 2021, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.
