Lois Carlton

Lois Rose Elizabeth Carlton, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away and went home to Jesus on Feb. 7, 2021 at her daughter's home in Billings, MT. Lois was born on a farm outside Norwalk, Ohio to Henry and Ella Horning on June 24, 1935. Her mother's family was from Bavaria and they were missionaries to the Indians and also built the St. Lorenz Church in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Lois graduated from nursing school at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland and immediately afterward moved to Phoenix, Arizona to help combat her severe lung issues. There she met Bill Carlton and they married on February 8, 1958. They had 3 children: Karen, Karole, and Michael. She and Bill were transferred to Tucson and then to Auburn, Washington. After Bill died in 1993, she became a quilter and helped make wonderful banners for her church, along with many quilts for her children and grandchildren. She loved to garden and always had a wonderful yard, even in the dry Arizona heat. In 2012, she moved to Billings, MT. She loved the Lord and was a very dedicated Christian and also a dedicated nurse. Lois is predeceased by her husband, Bill, her son, Michael, and her brother, Melvin. She is survived by her daughters: Karen Rolland (Kurt) of New Haven, MO and Karole Michel (Roger) of Billings, MT, her grandchildren: Christopher Rolland (Maria), Chad Rolland (Alicia), Nathaniel Rolland (Tabitha), Eric Michel (Georgia), Alexander Michel (Leah), and Bethanie Ballenski (Timothy), along with 15 great-grandchildren, Elayna, Beatrice, Miriam, Micah, Benjamin, Thomas, Liam, Emmett, John, Honória, Wesley, Miles, Turner, Desmond and Jack. The memorial service will be on Sunday, February 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 2pm. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Lutheran School.
