Obituary
Rod, of Park City MT, was born in Holstein Iowa to the late Elary & Elvira Madsen. He was Valedictorian of his High School class in Holstein. He was a graduate of Iowa State University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After High School, he spent a summer working on a Montana dude ranch, which drew him to the Treasure State where he lived for most of his life. He was a large breed veterinarian, applying his profession as a ranch manager for many years. Later in his career, he also practiced at a number of local small animal hospitals. He exercised a true entrepreneurial spirit pursuing other ventures in the oil business, wine importation, and investing. Rod was an avid history buff, hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He was an honest, gentle and sweet man with many friends going back over 60 years. He was knowledgeable on so many topics and shared his experiences with all. One of his fondest memories was raising his children, Tom and Kris, on the Bar-7 ranch in Ennis, MT. He lived an extraordinary life! Survivors include his partner Jeri Harris; daughter, Kristin Madsen Bailey (husband Ben); daughter in law, Bernie Madsen; grandchildren, Ben Madsen (wife Taylor), Kate Madsen, Aspen Turney and Jack Turney; brother, Reas Madsen (wife Billee), and nieces, Jennifer Ouellette and Amanda Smith, and countless friends. He will be fondly remembered for being a loving, giving and caring father, grandfather and friend. Rod will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Mary Madsen and son Thomas Benjamin Madsen. There will be a private service and celebration of Rod's life held at a later date. The family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research hospital at www.stjude.org Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com.
