Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Bonnie Eldredge. Bonita “Bonnie” Joann Eldredge, 89, of Billings, MT passed away on January 29, 2026. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and advocate, Bonnie will be remembered for her strength, creativity, quick wit, pointed communication, wisdom, loyalty, and encouragement.
Born on March 25, 1936, in Fargo, ND, Bonnie was the beloved daughter of Gladys Harvey Blackburn and Clifford Charles Blackburn. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bob Blackburn.
Celebrating 65 years in 2025, Bonnie married Thomas Henry Eldredge on August 20, 1960, in Miles City, MT. Bonnie and Tom enjoyed Bonnie’s wonderful gourmet meals, traveling, golf, theater, and entertaining. Although they graduated from rival colleges, Bonnie from Montana State University and Tom, University of Montana; they were still fun to watch a good Cat vs. Grizzly game with, if you could handle Bonnie’s commentary.
Bonnie was a passionate mother to her two daughters, Monica Kordonowy and Shelly Eldredge, and sons-in-law, James Kordonowy and Zach Sluder. She encouraged them in many ways including music, art, education, outdoor ventures, travel, and gourmet food experiences. She was an inspirational grandmother to her two granddaughters, Kymera Kordonowy,13, and Beverly Sluder, 12, helping them to cook, learn, and create.
An artist and avid supporter of the Billings arts community, Bonnie lived her values with intention. She chose work that aligned with her ideals, such as teaching and advocating at Planned Parenthood. She enjoyed acting in local theater, participating in art exhibits, writing letters to the editor, volunteering, politics, reading, cooking exercising, and sewing. She was always willing to offer a compassionate ear when it was needed. Her creativity, integrity, servant’s heart, and generous spirit inspired those around her.
Bonnie was the bridge between family and friends, writing letters, emails and arranging get-togethers to keep everyone connected whenever she could. She carried the histories of her family, preserving their stories and memories with love and reverence. We all loved a good Bonnie story!
Special thanks to Dr. Gerbasi, Riverstone Hospice, Billings Clinic, the staff at Yellowstone River Nursing & Rehabilitation, Westpark Village, great friends, family and everyone who supported her along the way.
Bonnie’s life was a life well-lived, she will be deeply missed by all who loved her. A celebration of life will be held on what would have been Bonnie’s 90th birthday, March 25th at Hilands Golf Club from 11am-2pm. Donations to Yellowstone Art Museum can be made in Bonnie’s name.
