Obituary
Theodore (Ted) J Hogan Sr. also know by his Apsaalooke name Kills in the Fog began his journey to the other side camp Saturday April 10, 2021 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He was born April 17, 1945 in Crow Agency, MT to Alma Hogan Snell and Clifford Singer Sr. and will be laid to rest on April 17, 2021 in Crow Agency, MT. Ted was a member of the Greasy Mouth Clan and a child of the Whistling Water Clan. As an infant child, Ted was cared for by his aunt Mamie Hogan-Knows Gun and his uncle Frederick Paul Knows Gun, Sr. Throughout the rest of his childhood he was cared for many loving family and tribal members. Ted graduated from high school Fort Yates, SD and attended Pepperdine University before enlisting in the US Army in 1965 and immediately reinlisted in 1969 during the Viet Nam conflict. As a Green Beret, Ted completed Combat Intelligence training and was an Intel Analyst. He was awarded Parachutists Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Staff Service Medal, Overseas Service Bars and 3 Bronze Stars. Ted returned home to Crow Agency, MT to serve his Apsaalooke people as Secretary of the Crow Tribe. He was very passionate about helping his people escape their dependence on the U.S government and achieve true sovereignty. Ted was featured in the documentary “Contrary Warriors: A Film of the Crow Tribe.” Ted made his home in Fort Smith, MT as well as Sedona, AZ where he won many businessman awards for his tour company Way of the Ancients. He loved living at the base of Thunder Mountain and enjoying the beauty of the red rock vistas. Ted had a good heart and was very generous. He never hesitated to help whenever there was a need. His life was a testament to how much he loved as he was always ready with a smile and a hug. He will be missed by all those who had the opportunity to know him. He is survived by his daughter Kathy, son TJ, his grandchildren Hunter, Jayden, Maggie, and Emily, his brother William Snell Jr, Pearl Jean Buchanan, Faith Chosa, many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren, by every living Apsaalooke, his friends and his brothers in the Special Forces Association Chapter 22. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 17, 2021 in the Multi-Purpose Building in Crow Agency, MT, followed by internment at the Apsaalooke Veterans Cemetery where he will be buried with honors with a memorial feed following at Reno Hall.

I was blessed to meet Ted in Sedona in Dec 1999. And to participate in a sweat lodge on New Years Eve in Oak Creek Canyon.

I have more memories of my friend Ted that I could possibly post here. We met when I was a tourist in Sedona and we became very close and shared a lot of adventures together. Like Ted I am complicated, and even though I don't think I ever told him not only did he share a name with my father but he repeated a piece of wisdom my father once gave me so his role in my life was big and I think maybe I'm still interacting with him now ,Well after he transitioned to the other side camp. Aho.
