Davis Woundedface

Davis “Dave” Aaron Woundedface, also known as Holy Hoop, died May 19, 2021. He was born in Mandaree, ND on July 3, 1945 to Rodrick Lone Fight and Geraldine Woundedface. Raised by his grandparents, William and Julie Woundedface, Dave was Mandan of Three Affiliated Tribes. He graduated from Mandaree High School in 1965, drafted into the Army in 1966 serving overseas in Germany and Vietnam. After being honorably discharged two years later, he returned home, was married and later divorced after being blessed with a daughter from that marriage. On June 3, 1975 he married Elsie Faith Stewart in Sheridan, WY and they made their home in Pryor, MT. Dave had many jobs but found truck driving for BFI sanitation was the occupation he enjoyed and followed for many years. Dave was known as a dedicated and hard worker. Dave enjoyed listening to Elvis music, playing keno, collecting coins, drawing, beading, fishing, hunting, and horseback riding. But most of all, his passion was his family. He attended his grandchildren's sporting events including basketball and cross-country. He enjoyed visiting family in North Dakota, and joking with those he loved. In 2017, because of his love of horses, Dave started his Indian Relay team. Win or lose, he was always very proud of the team and horses. He was full of new ideas and wanted to start an Indian owned business, which resulted in the founding of Chalk Butte Tire Service. Dave suffered with illness, and in January 2021 was diagnosed with cancer. His battle, although long and hard fought, was lost. But Dave will forever live in our hearts. His memory will be treasured by all that knew him. Dave was a loving son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We love you! Survivors include daughters: Geralyn (Joe), Dawn Ann (Robert), Devona (Jason), adopted daughter Alaynna; adopted sons: Ronson LaRoque, Gerard Lavedure, Joey (Courtney); brothers: Edward Lone Fight, Marlon Woundedface; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces; extended families in ND and in Pryor; and many dear, close friends. Preceded in death by grandparents William and Julie Woundedface; parents Geraldine Woundedface and Rodrick Lone Fight; sister Camilla Little Wolf; son Levi Littlelight.
