Wallace Broderson

Wallace K. Broderson passed away on Oct. 6, 2012 at the TenderNest Assisted Living facility in Billings. Wallace was born in Ryegate Montana on March 3, 1920 to John and Ethel Broderson. He grew up on the family farm 3 miles east of Ryegate on the East Bench. Schooling was at different one room schools where Ethel taught; he graduated from Ryegate High School in 1938. He attended one year of college at Eastern Montana Normal School and then went home to help farm. Wally was drafted in 1942 and served as an MP on the troop trains until receiving a farm deferment in 1943. Wally farmed until 2005 when the farm was sold. He lived in Broadview with his son, Terry, for a year until his health determined that he needed more care. Wallace resided at Vintage Suites and TenderNest until his death. Wallace married Mary Lois Wynkoop in Spokane in 1943 and they adopted four children. He was married twice more. He served on the Ryegate School Board and the Sims Ditch Board. Wally loved to hunt, went to many high school sports events, and he sold a variety of items, such as heated pictures, water distillers, CB radios, and bolt selections. There are a lot of farms that still have boxes of bolts that he sold. Wally loved John Deere tractors. He enjoyed his CB radio for many years. Wally was very social and loved to talk on the phone. He had a wry sense of humor and would call people very early in the morning and ask if they were up yet. Wally lived the life he wanted. Wallace is survived by Leslie Ann Mulder (Jerry), Bette Larsen, Terry Broderson (Melina), and Jerry Broderson (Linda), as well as, two nieces, Carol Newman and Judy Martin (Shorty), seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Service: Services will be Oct 12, 2012 at the Ryegate School Gym in Ryegate at 1:00 PM; a lunch will follow at the community center.
