There are so many memories of Pat and many will be shared Thursday at the KC club, I know. There is one that I would have loved to have shared. Pat and I went to Ryegate to officiate a boys basketball game one night. Everybody is on top of you in that little Cracker Box gym. The game was physical and things got tense in the crowd and at the benches. Ryegate lost in overtime and we both doled out a couple of technicals on them. When we finished showering, Pat looked at me in that Pat way and said "Let's go to the bar and have a pop before we go home." I said, "You know we could have an issue there after the outcome of this game." He scoffed and he said, "If there's an issue, I'll have the last word. And, another thing, we walk out of that bar together and back-to-back if necessary. Good?" I smiled and nodded. We went in and, of course, somebody popped off. Pat was having none of it and while we didn't come to blows, it was close. I grabbed him and said, "Let's go before we end up spending a long night in the Ryegate jail." And we walked out of the bar together...and back-to-back, too. We laughed about it the entire ride home. I would have officiated anywhere anytime with him. We both worked the umpire position in football. I'm sad that I never got to work a game in that sport with him.

What a great guy and family. Admired and respected Pat as a person and a football official. We had many sideline interactions over the years and his quick wit and sly smile put you in your place. I will miss you Pat and thoughts and prayers to your family and loved ones.
