Obituary

As a family, we are deeply saddened at the loss of our dearly beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and niece. Anne-Marie passed from our lives on Friday, October 8, 2021. She was born on January 16, 1976, to Jim and Shirley Knopp in Billings, Montana. On her father's side she was of German descent, and on her mother's side Spanish and Mexican. Her great grandpa came from Spain as a land grant Spaniard and settled in what is today, New Mexico. Anne-Marie was very proud of her Spanish-Mexican heritage. She attended Billings Public Schools and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1994 with honors. She went on to attend the University of Chicago earning her bachelor's degree, after which she attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and De Paul University in Chicago where she earned her jurisprudence doctorate degree in 2002. She was accepyed to Illinois Bar Association shorty after. That summer she met Robert Simeon, the love of her life, whom she married next year on March 23, 2003, in Slavonski Brod, Croatia where Robert was from. They spent several years in Chicago before coming back to Billings when Anne-Marie became pregnant, and her dad was diagnosed with cancer. She got to spend four years with her dad before he passed in 2010. From her marriage with Robert, two children were born: daughter Maya born in 2007 and son Mile in 2010. Anne-Marie was a caring and compassionate person who deeply loved her children and became an attorney with the goal of helping troubled families and children suffering from neglect and abuse, always going the extra mile to assure her clients' well-being. With that goal in mind, she joined the Montana State Public Defenders office, and after, went on doing the same work as a contract attorney for the State of Montana. She worked hard to the end even while she was sick with metastatic breast cancer which eventually took her from us but joined her with her dad in heaven. You will always be in our hearts Anne-Marie. Vaya con Dios.

I am so sadden by Anne-Marie’s passing. The world lost a delightful, caring and sincere person. I always looked forward to seeing her in court. She loved her children so and was very proud to have them with in the courthouse. I only hope to be 1/2 of the person she was. I am with you in your loss and sending you calming light. Anne Marie is a central figure in so many of my dearest childhood memories. From Catholic school to public school she was not only a friend but trusted barometer for almost every situation and I am so lucky she was my companion on that journey. With Anne around I knew everything was on the up and up and I adored her. Every memory I have includes fun and laughter. Simpler times for sure, but I imagine she still had that sparkle. To the Mrs. Knopp, my deepest sympathies and warmest regards. Thank you for raising such a beautiful, wonderful human being. My heart is comforted knowing she’s with her sweet dad.

I have so many wonderful memories with Anne-Marie and the whole Knopp family. Fishing with Anne-Marie and her dad Jim at Cooney Dam, countless dinners , Jim’s homemade sausage and Shirley’s tamales were my favorite! Anne-Marie, my brother, and I would sit down in Jay’s room playing Frogger on his Atari when he wasn’t home! I remember sneaking out as teenagers and “borrowing” the car! I Love Knopp family so much and miss my best friend. I will carry her memory in my heart the rest of my life and I know we will all be together again. Your family is always in my prayers. All of my love to Robert, Maya and Mile. Through you, she lives on. Love, Michelle (DeCelles) Schenk and family
