Obituary

Ronald (Ron) L. Zahn was lovingly welcomed into the arms of his large heavenly family on Sunday, March 29, 2026. A lifelong resident of Billings, MT, Ron passed away in Salt Lake City after meeting cancer with remarkable courage and grace.

Born March 3, 1960, in Billings to Andrew and Kay (Gallagher) Zahn, Ron grew up in a lively household as one of six siblings. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1978 and went on to study mathematics at the College of Great Falls, where he earned a place on the Dean’s List. After college, he began his career with Meadow Gold Dairy in Sheridan, Wyoming, working as a delivery driver—a role that would eventually lead him into leadership positions he excelled in.

In 1988, Ron married Connie Bernard, and together they built a loving home in Buffalo, WY, with Connie’s young son, Nathan. Their family grew with the arrival of their son, Andrew (Drew), in 1989. Ron was a devoted father, and the years spent raising his boys in Buffalo were among the happiest of his life. A skilled bowler, he competed on teams in many local tournaments while living in Buffalo. In 1996, Meadow Gold recognized Ron’s talent and heart for people, promoting him to District Manager of their operations on Oahu, Hawaii.

Hawaii quickly became a place Ron cherished. He embraced island life wholeheartedly—golfing year-round, joining tournaments with coworkers, and heading out for deep-sea fishing whenever he could. The ocean, the sunshine, and the friendships he made there stayed with him always.

After 12 years in Hawaii, Ron returned to Billings in 2008 following his retirement. Back home, he continued to enjoy the things that brought him joy throughout his life: golfing with the same passion he shared with his father, fishing with family and friends, and spending crisp autumn days at his hunting and fishing camp near De Smet, South Dakota. Ron also loved the energy of sporting events—horse races, baseball games, or anything that brought people together. Ron had a deep love of music and an impressive memory for music history. He could talk for hours about artists, albums, and stories behind the songs he loved. Above all, Ron was known for his generous heart. He showed up for people—whether they needed help, company, or simply someone to share a laugh and a meal with. Ronald Lee Zahn truly embodied the spirit of Aloha.

Ron is survived by his father, Andrew (Andy) Zahn of Boise, ID; brother Kenneth Zahn of Billings, MT; sister Tammi Perdew (Kris) of Boise, ID; son Andrew William Zahn of Trinidad, CA; stepson Nate Alan Eisenbarth of Burlington, VT; and former wife Connie Bernard of Honolulu, HI. And the countless extended family and friends that he loved along the way.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Kay (Gallagher) Zahn; brothers Gary, Mark, and David Zahn; nephew Kevin Zahn; paternal grandparents Adam and Annie Zahn; and maternal grandparents Carl and Lillian Gallagher.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Ron’s honor may be made to the Buffalo, Wyoming Ducks Unlimited Chapter through the Wyoming Ducks Unlimited website.
