Roy Mercier

Roy Gilbert “Bud” Mercier Bud was born March 18, 1935 in Richey, (Dawson County) Montana. The youngest son of Alfred and Margaret (Cravens) Mercier. Bud grew up in the Glendive, Lambert areas of Montana as well as Chula Vista, California. In April of 1966 Bud married Maureen Thilmony, a widowed mother of 7 children. During this marriage, Bud welcomed the birth of his first son, Clay Allen Mercier. Bud and Maureen divorced in 1974. Bud eventually found his way into truck driving as a career and in the early 80's. He also met Lois Ann Lynn and her infant son Christopher. Eventually realizing that he'd met the love of his life, Bud married Lois on January 29, 1983 and welcomed Chris as his own son. In the late 80's and early 90's after driving truck for a number of years, Bud decided to take on a new adventure in the world of VHS videos. This idea eventually led to the creation of High Plains Video Exchange. Bud would travel all over Montana and the surrounding states meeting and doing business with many interesting people, some becoming life-long friends. During the 90's, after Bud closed High Plains Video Exchange, he found his way back into the trucking life. This eventually led him to his career as a driver for Pelican Oil. For the next 17 years, Bud worked faithfully for the Pelican family making more life-long friends along the way. Pelican Oil eventually was sold to GM Petroleum. Bud continued to drive for GM a few more years, but it was getting time to retire and get off the road. During his retirement life, Bud enjoyed the time he got to spend with his family and friends the most. He was a simple man to please as long as you knew his basic food groups. Meat, potatoes, milk, bread and butter. He enjoyed westerns and the game show network, and Lonnie Bell's Classic Country on the radio during weekend trips to Powell, Wyoming with Lois and Chris. He loved watching football on Sundays. However, Bud always preferred spending time with Lois. Together, they would often visit family, and have dinners on Friday nights with their friends. It didn't matter to Bud what they did, as long as long as they did it together. For 38 loving and wonderful years, Bud and Lois shared many adventures creating a lifetime of memories. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life such as a long laugh with friends, or a delicious meal with family. He loved the way Lois would decorate his home for the holidays. Christmas was his favorite time of the year. Towards the end of Bud's life, he and Lois moved into a new home with Chris, Brittney and Brady Mercier. During this brief period, Bud met one more pal that would eventually become his best friend. Rocky “Poochie”, the family dog. Bud would spend his days enjoying coffee on the patio with Lois, playing with Rocky throughout the day, and a daily card game of Michigan rummy with the love of his life to pass the time until his family came home to share their day with him. Bud died on Saturday, November 6, 2021. He will forever be missed. His sense of humor could only be explained by being in his presence. From his wise cracks and dirty jokes, a laugh that would come from deep in his belly, and a smile that was infectious with joy. Bud truly loved all of his friends and family. He was Lois's diamond in the rough and an unforgettable and unique treasure for those that got to know and love him. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joe, Al, Ben and Julia. Survivors include his wife, Lois; son and daughter-in-law Chris and Brittney; grandson Brady all of Billings. Son and daughter-in-law Clay and Robin; grandsons Cody, Ethan (Hannah) and great grandson Thomas Jefferson “TJ” Mercier all of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Brother Bill (Edna) Mercier of Laurel. Several step children, many nieces and nephews; in-laws and their families in the Powell, Wyoming area. Last but not least his favorite dog Rocky “Poochie”. A celebration of Bud's life will be held in the summer of 2022. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity in his memory.
